CASE STUDY ON CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE

Mr. Jaime Villanueva, a 46-year-old Filipino and Call Center Agent, is 5 feet 5
inches tall and weighs 90 kilograms. He sits for long hours at work and is too tired to
exercise when he gets home. His meals usually include fatty meats, eggs, and cheese,
and he likes dairy desserts such as ice cream and donuts and consumed 2-3 cups of 3
in 1 coffee everyday to keep awake. He has a family history of CHD and hypertension.
His recent laboratory tests show that his blood pressure is 160/100 mm Hg, and his LDL
and HDL levels are 160 mg/dL and 35 mg/dL, respectively.

TASKS:

1. Categorize all the available data for:

 Food / nutrition-related history;


 Anthropometric measurements;
 Biochemical data, medical tests and procedures;
 Nutrition-focused physical findings; and
 Client history

2. Compute for Mr. Jaime Villanueva’s BMI, DBW, TER and make a diet
prescription (diet Rx). NO NEED to do a meal plan.

3. What is CHD and hypertension?

4. What are the interpretation of the results of his:

 blood pressure,
 LDL, and
 HDL?

5. What dietary changes would you recommend that could help improve Mr.
Villanueva’s blood pressure and his LDL and HDL cholesterol? Make a research
on “DASH Diet”.

6. Make at least one nutrition diagnosis.
