Plan of work for week beginning February 13, 2012

Subject: Language Arts

Duration: 5x1hrs

Topic: Action Words

Attainment Targets:

 give and receive Information


 Listen to and speak with sensitivity to an audience
 Apply relevant decoding skills to the reading process
 read for meaning, fluency and enjoyment
 use recognizable handwriting, appropriate spelling and vocabulary
 know and use basic language skills and the conventions of spoken and written language
Objectives
 By the end of the week students should be able to :
 Tell what action words are
 Give examples of action words
 Identify action words from passage
 Use words to tell a specific action.

Activities

Day 1

 Students and teachers will sing action song, e.g. I feel like running, skipping, etc.
 Students will identify action words from the song.
 Students will give other examples of action words.
 Students will make sentences orally.
 Students will identify action words from cards and match them with similar ones on
chalkboard.

Assessment 1

Pupils will be allowed to choose three word cards with action words and write a sentence
with each.

Assessment 2
Pupils will be shown pictures of actions being done and asked to match words with
action.
Day 2

 Individuals will be required to perform specific actions


 They will make oral sentence about each action.
 Student and teacher will read short passages and students will identify action words
 Students will be called at random to make sentences using the action word he/she
identified. This will be done orally.

Assessment

Students will do activity from page 51 of Grade One Integrated Social Studies
Workbook. Here they will fill in the missing action word that the picture depicts.
Teacher will supervise, guide and assist when necessary.

Day 3

Students will sing action songs.


They will read sentences from sentence strips and identify action words from each
sentence. They will match actions in picture with words.
They will circle all action words in the list below:
Walk talk skip
His run book
Father hop eat
Sleep her jump

Day 4
Students will be asked to give action words to be listed on chalk board.
They will call words individually and in groups.
They will do action as they call words.
In small groups, students will spell action words.

Day 5

Students and teacher will review previous days lessons.

They will select action words of their choice and compose a jingle of their own.

Assessment

Pupils will complete the following exercise.


Circle the “action word” in the bracket.

The rat {runs, bags} to the hole.

The monkey {books, climbs} the tree.

The men {walk, foot} on the road.

The principals {hand, drive} to school.
