1. CASE STUDY-1
The figure given below shows the path of a diver, when she takes a jump from the
diving board. Clearly it is a parabola.
Annie was standing on a diving board, 48 feet above the water level. She took a dive
into the pool. Her height (in feet) above the water level at any time ‘t’ in seconds is
given by the polynomial h(t) such that
h(t) = -16t2 + 8t + k
2. CASE STUDY-2
Prize Distribution:
Director of a company select a round glass trophy for awarding their employees on
annual function. Design of each trophy is made as shown in the figure, where its base
ABCD is golden plated from the front side at the rate of Rs 6 per cm².
3. CASE STUDY-3
Rashmi bought a wall clock to gift her friend Komal on her birthday. The clock
contains a small pendulum of length 15cm.The minute hand and hour hand of the
clock are 10cm and 7cm long respectively.
Answer the following questions:
(i) Calculate the area swept by the minute hand in 20 minutes.
(ii) Find the distance covered by the tip of the minute hand in 5 minutes.
(iii) What is the angel described by hour hand in 30minutes?
(iv) Calculate the area swept by the hour hand in 1 hour.
(v) What is the area swept by the hour hand between 9am and 5pm?
4. CASE STUDY-4
A stable owner has four horses. He usually tie these horses with 7m long rope to peg
at each corner of a square shaped grass field of 20m length, to graze in his farm. But
tying with rope sometimes results in injuries to his horses, so he decided to build
fence around each horse and let them freely move and graze separately in their own
area.
5. CASE STUDY-5
Rohit wants to distribute chocolates in his class on his birthday. The chocolates are of
three types: MUNCH, PERK and KitKat. If the total number of students in the class is
54 and everyone gets a chocolate, then answer the following questions.
Design A:Brooch A is made with silver wire in the form of a circle with diameter
28mm. The wire is also used for making 4 diameters which divide the circle into 8
equal parts.
Design B: Brooch B is made of two colours, Gold and Silver. Outer part is made
with Gold and the inner part is made of Silver. The circumference of the Silver part
is 44mm and the gold part is 3mm wide everywhere.
a. What is the probability that the arrow will point at a prime number?
b. If the arrow points at a perfect square, the person gets a double chance to spin the wheel.
Then what is the probability of double chance of spinning wheel?
c. What is the probability that the arrow will point toward the letter Y?
d. What is the probability of arrow pointing towards a number divisible by 3?
e. What is the probability of arrow pointing towards an odd number or a prime number?
