What is a
Phrase?
- it is a group of words that works together in a
sentence but does not contain a subject or a verb.
Often phrases are used for descriptions of people,
things, or events

There are many types of phrases, but they can be divided into three main categories: noun phrases,
verb phrases, and modifying phrases.

•Noun Phrase
A Noun Phrase is consist of noun and other related words (usually modifiers and deternminers)
which modify the noun. It functions like a noun in the sentence.

For example:

• Delia had a weak heart.

The phrase a weak heart is considered a noun phrase, "heart" is the noun and "weak" is a modifier
•Verb Phrase
Verb Phrase is a combination of main verb and its auxiliary (helping) verb.

Some examples of helping verb are:

am, is, are, be, has, have, do, does, might, must, can, shall and will.

For example:

• The shot did not scare Biryuk.

The phrase "did not scare" is a verb phrase, "Scare" is the main verb and "did"is the helping verb.
