VIII DIV.1 Edn.2017 > Other Applicable Standard / Project Specification, 4 PROCEDURE 41 Welding directly to the base metal shall be completed prior to final heat treatment, All activities Tequired to be completed before post weld heat treatment including non destructive examination as applicable shall be completed on the components, which are to be heat treated, 42 The components shall be property supported in such a way to avoid undue attachment restraint. 43° The components shall be loaded on appropriate saddle support and one end of the component shall be sliding to accommodate thermal expansion in the part. 44 Kelype chromium/Aluminium thermocouples shall be used for measuring temperature during heat ‘treatment. Thermocouple shall be located on the inside and outside of the vessel surface and placed to ensure that all portions of the vessel are properly and uniformly heat treated, without the presence of detrimental thermal gradient. 4.5 The hot junction of calibrated thermocouples shall be attached directly to the wall of components, by capacitor discharge method using WPS No. TC-CDW-1. The thermocouples shall be Attached to calibated temperature recorder (s) through extension wires, The thermocouple to extension ‘wire connection shall be minimum 0.5m outside the heated Zone. The speed of temperature recorders) shallbe selected according to chart in use. 48 Adiagram showing thermocouple locations shall be prepared and components shall be heat Treated as per the heating cycle. OBJECTIVE The objective of this procedure is to provide a uniform method for local post weld heat treatment of pressure vessel assemblies and providing control on temperature gradient during heat treatment of equipment no. : HPH-7A/B, HPH-8A/B, HPH-QA/B, TDSH-1 & 2. REFERENCE STANDARD AND DOCUMENTS Following Standard and Documents shall be referred, > ASME SEC. Vill DIV.1 Edn.2017. > Other Applicable Standard / Project Specification PROCEDURE Welding directly to the base metal shall be completed prior to final heat treatment. All activities required to be completed before post weld heat treatment including non destructive examination as applicable shall be completed on the components, which are to be heat treated, The components shall be properly supported in such a way to avoid undue attachment restraints The machined surfaces shall be suitably covered by ceramic blankets in order to protect it from corrosion. ‘The components shall be loaded on appropriate seddle support and one end of the component shall be sliding to accommodate thermal expansion in the part. K-type chromium/Aluminium thermocouples shall be used for measuring temperature during heat treatment. All thermocouple shall be placed on opposite site of the shell from heating elements. The hot junction of calibrated thermocouples shall be attached directly to the wall of components by capacitor discharge method using WPS No. TC-CDW-1 The thermocouples shall be attached to calibrated temperature recorder(s) through extension wires. The thermocouple to extension wire connection shall be minimum 0.5m outside the heated zone, The speed of temperature recorder(s) shall be selected according to chart in use. Thermocouple location shall be as per Annexure-f and shall be inspected and verified with approved PWHT procedure before start of PWHT. Heating cycle containing loading temperature, heating rate, holding temperature and time, cooling rate and unloading temperature shall be provided in Welding and Testing Plan on case to case basis and as per Table -1 of this procedure and GA drawing PWHT table, However the Heating cycle provided thus shall satisfy the Para 4.12 through 4.15 ofthis procedure 4.8 For Local Post Weld Heat Treatment the soak band shall extend around the full circumference of components. 4.9 As a minimum the soak band shall contain the weld, HAZ, and a portion of base metal adjacent to the weld being heat treated. The minimum width of the soak band shall be the widest wiath of the weld plus one nominal thickness or 2 in.(50mm), whichever is less, on each side of the weld. In case of nozzle attachment soak band shall include a circle that extends beyond attachment weld in all direction by a minimum one nominal thickness or 50mm whichever is less. 4.10 The heat band shall be VR on either side of the soak band and the gradient control band shall be 4VRI on either side of the soak band (Where, R= Component Intemal Radius & t=Component thickness) 4.11. Adequate insulation coverage over and above the heat band shall be made while performing local post weld heat treatment of component 4.12 Ifnot otherwise specified, the rate of heating above 425°C shall not be more than 220°C/hr divided by maximum thickness of weld in shell or head in inches, but in no case more than 220°CIhr. 4.13. There shall not be a greater variation in temperature throughout the vessel than 70°C between any ‘wo thermocouples during heating and cooling period. There shall not be a difference between highest and lowest temperature through the soak greater than 40°C during holding time except where the range is further imited by Code or Drawing or Welding and Testing Plan 4.14 If not otherwise specified, the rate of cooling above 425°C shall not be more than 280°Cihr divided by maximum thickness of weld in shell or head in inches, but in no case more than 280°CIhr. From 425°C the power could be turned off and from 10°C the vessel welds can be cooled in stil ar. 4.18 One thermocouple shall be provided at the end of heat band and temperature of this thermocouple shall be controlled approximate half the temperature of soak band at any time.
