Chap 1: Media literacy awareness of grade 11 CSS students of Daniel Maramba National High

Introduction
Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create media messages, ability to
identify, understand, and use different types of media and information. Media literacy involves
awareness of how the media are influenced by commercial, political, and social factors, and how they
affect the audiences and society. It has a crucial skill all media consumers must have. A willingness to
experiment and the capacity to recognize reactions are two key abilities that can help consumers
become more media literate. Many factors can alter how we interpret and are affected by media.
Understanding the differences between mediated and non-mediated media and their implications is also
important to media literacy. Media literacy requires critical thinking and ethical decision-making when
selecting and using media content. It is an essential skill in today’s world, where we are constantly
bombarded with information from a variety of sources.

The purpose of study aims to contradictions, conflicts, issues, and even beneficial effects of mass
communication use is made possible by researching how we use and consume it. How much do you
know about mass communication? There’s a lot to learn. Understanding the impact of media on us as
members of society requires that we are aware of the amount of media we consume. Being media
literate is being aware of the mass media we consume and the mediated environment we live in. It is our
capacity to understand, access, and use mass media in a responsible manner in our personal as well as
professional lives.

Based on our research the positive impact of the internet on students are increase of their
research abilities, enhanced collaboration, and made online learning more accessible. However, in the
other side there are also negative impact such as addiction, cyberbullying, and lack of face-to-face
communication skills. The study will contribute to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence
on the effect of Media Literacy Awareness on Grade 11 CSS students of Daniel Maramba National High
School.

Statement of the problem


The potential lack of media literacy awareness among students can cause sharing and believing
misinformation and addiction. It can also affect the ability of students to make informed decisions and
effectively contribute to their academic field. The study aims to investigate media literacy awareness
among grade 11 CSS students at Daniel Maramba National High School.

1. How students will effectively improve Media Literacy Awareness using critical thinking among
Grade 11 CSS students of Daniel Maramba National High School?

2. How does media literacy awareness influence individuals’ understanding of media messages and
their ability to identify bias and misinformation?
3. Can media literacy awareness contribute to promoting healthier and more responsible
interactions with social media platforms?
