REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRIES MADE WHEN ON A SEA PASSAGE
1. Particular attention must be paid to the recording of all engine
movements, sound signals and alterations of course in fog and all other
entries which are required by the Company’s Procedures and Instructions.

2. The three figure notation must be used in entering courses and bearings.
All bearings are to be entered as True Bearings.

3. The ‘Eng.Revs.’ column must show the telegraph order in force at the
time, except when there is insufficient space for all manoeuvres to be
recorded. In such cases the abbreviations T.M.O. or T.P.A. may be used
and particulars of individual orders must be shown in the Bridge Movement
Book.
The revolutions corresponding to the various engine orders must be agreed
between the Master and Chief Engineer and entered in the space below.
Those vessels fitted with bridge control units or engine order telegraphs
calibrated in RPM must record all entries in the ENGINES column in RPM.
Should engine speed be varied by adjusting revolutions the entry ‘adjusted
T.M.O.’ or ‘to E.R.R.’ should be made in the ENGINES column and the RPM
together with the time of adjustment in the REMARKS coloumn.
The recording of engine movements may be dispensed with if the ship has
a properly functioning engine order recorder, but principal movements
should still be recorded.

4. Visibility column is to be entered as follows :-


If more than 10 miles 10+
If less than 10 but more than 2 miles estimate to neare
If less than 2 miles estimate to nearest

5. Whenever clocks are altered, that fact must be entered in the log and a
notation of the zone time being kept must be made in the daily noon
record. In fog the bridge and engine room clocks (or engine order recorder)
are to be compared hourly, but no alteration shall be made.
