also do hold that true determination ensures a winner. I have always loved to get the goods behind
simple science, and my career aspirations are a work of consistent absorption of knowledge with strong
passion.

The slogan- “Technology for the Benefit of People and the Environment” of “University of ABC” is
one of the key reasons for me being interested, besides it being selected “three times as one of the
best universities under 50 years old”. Master’s programs like “Business and Technology, Industrial
Engineering and Management” & “Smart Grids, Electrical Engineering” are ample to add weight to
this bargain. To that end, I, Applicant_Name with great confidence and earnestness, pledge my
application to these programs.

By picking up the fundamentals of sales, marketing and business communication skills, I have
flourished into a “T-shaped Man” with a fine knowledge in engineering (the vertical bar) and a
proficient command on how to utilise it with business (the horizontal bar). To that end, I completed my
MBA in “Management Information System (MIS)”. Regular communication with the international
suppliers for sourcing raw materials and coordination with the sales and production division have
opened new opportunities of learning and made me out and out a man for all seasons.

My MBA thesis paper “Business Process Re-engineering”, using “Arena- Simulation Software”
imitated the total production scenario with the help of my real time collected data. The management
implemented some of the recommendations under my supervision, which improved the work flow and
overall production by 11%.

Being in the “Electrical Service” business sector for more than four years, I have learned the
importance of a targeted approach emphasised on utilising technical knowledge for managerial
decision making. So, courses like- Industrial Management, Negotiation Skills, Sales & Sourcing, Supply
Chain Management, Logistics Management, Knowledge Management, Project Management and
Leadership skills will surely help me develop and devise a theoretical framework for practical
application.

A thought of designing and managing thousands of electrical sources with millions of megawatts
generating capacities, connected by thousands of miles of transmission lines is bewildering at the drop
of a hat. From a workshop on “Teambuilding and Communication”, I learned the importance of two-
way correspondence for ensuring implementation of direction. To that end, the concept “Smart Grid”
has astonished me, how a simple rule of every day’s human interaction can be used in an electrical
transmission and distribution system to make it more efficient, reliable, smarter and greener. Being an
electrical engineer, I find this enthralling to pursue my future endeavour, so that I can be the one whose
effort would really make a difference.

I am indebted to my school because it is the ethos of my school that made me what I am today. A few
months ago, I came across “Why Are Finland’s Schools Successful?” in the Smithsonian Magazine.
The writing focused on the “Whatever it takes” attitude of the Finn’s schooling system. This write-up
sparked my interest and I, since that very day, felt that if I ever need to pursue future studies, I should
consider Finland first. In Finland, where teaching is one of the most revered professions, I believe I can
learn from the most dedicated ones in this field.

As mentioned earlier, both the M.Sc. programs have countless applications and permutations. The
future of smart grid technology will demand a workforce with a specialist skill set and the business
working with technical products will definitely be in need of professionals with clear understanding of
their products, targeted customers and sourcing of raw materials. With the learning from your program,
I would like to meet this demand and in the future, I want to become an integral part of the forthcoming
development.

Furthermore, Finland is now being considered as one of the forefathers of clean, reliable and secured
country for industrial infrastructure and power generation. All of my experience has brought to light that
it is the most opportune moment to further enrich my knowledge and delve into the research division of
the technology for bringing myself to the level of expertise in design verification and validation. I am
competent and confident for the new challenge and strongly believe that master’s at any of these two
junctures would give me the necessary push and momentum that would hasten my steps towards my
aspired career in business development or an expert of smart electrical grid system or even become an
entrepreneur.

I am certain that the knowledge and skills learnt from my professional experience, university, and
extracurricular activities would make me a valuable addition to the MSc. Program of Tampere University
of Technology to obtain a “M.Sc. (Technology) in Business and Technology, Industrial
Engineering and Management” or “M.Sc.(Technology) in Smart Grids, Electrical Engineering” and
if the authority considers me worthy of any sorts of financial waiver, it will be highly appreciated
