I.OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:
1. State the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the universe.
2. Describe the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the solar system.
How did the Universe Originate?
Cosmology - It is a branch of astronomy and astrophysics that seeks to understand the fundamental
properties and dynamics of the cosmos as a whole, rather than focusing on individual celestial objects
like stars or galaxies.
SOLAR SYSTEM - Just a part of the vast universe is our solar system. It is located somewhere in Milky
Way Galaxy. It consists of the sun being at the center, minor and major planets and other celestial
bodies like satellites, comets, asteroids and meteoroids.
 Nebular Theory - most scientist believe the solar system started out as a large nebula gas and
dust which eventually spun out into the shape of a disc.
 Fission Theory - one day Sun Burst, and planets and moons came out
 Captured Theory - Planets are wandering around, due to gravity, sun captured them and
began circling.
 Planetary collision Theory - Planets collide with small planets through of rocks which become
the moon and began orbiting the planet.
 Stellar Collision Theory - planets moons and suns came from the condition of two stars

Universe - is everything we can touch, feel, sense, measure or detect. It includes living things, planets,
stars, galaxies, dust clouds, light, and even time.

Theories of how the Universe Originate.

 Big Bang

 Pulsating
 Divine Creation Theory

 Big Bang Theory - Matter and energy were compressed and condensed in a hot tiny dense
mass
 Steady State Theory - in cosmology, a view that the universe is always expanding but
maintaining a constant average density, with matter being continuously created to form new
stars and galaxies at the same rate that old ones become unobservable as a consequence of
their increasing distance and velocity of recession.
 Pulsating Theory - This theory says that the universe follows infinite self-sustaining cycles such
us expanding and contracting
 Divine Creation Theory - Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the
earth. “The very first claim made in the Bible is that there was a beginning. Since Genesis 1
describes how God created the universe, and in a certain sequence, there is no doubt that he
did that exactly. God created the universe.
