Identifying Your Stressors and Potential Stress Management


Strategies

Make a list of the top 5 stressors in your life. Identify which of the ‘Five
Categories of Stressors’ each stress falls in. (Acute time-limited; Brief naturalistic;
Stressful event sequences; Chronic; Distant). Using the stress management
strategies presented in Unit 3, please identify 2 ways to deal with each stress
and briefly describe how these strategies would be effective at reducing
the impact of your stressors.

1. Money- Stressful Event Sequence


a. Becoming more responsible with spending by not giving into
temptation and only purchasing my needs and not my wants.
b. Trying to budget and adhering to my budgets by not going over.

2. Death of a family member- Stressful event sequences


a. Attending a religious gathering.
b. Talking to someone who I trust to talk about how I am feeling.

3. Work- Chronic stress


a. Taking deep breaths to calm me down and help me refocus.
b. Figure out what the stressor is so I can face it or avoid it.

4. School- Brief naturalistic


a. Using a calendar so I can keep track of any upcoming
assignments, tests, and exams. Also developing a more efficient
study style by taking more breaks in between studying.
b. Putting things into perspective and trying to understand that
getting a 75% on a test isn’t the end of the world.

5. Mental Health- Chronic


a. Exercising to clear mind and stop any negative thinking.
b. Doing Mindfulness exercises.
