Tina Humphrey
Tina was diagnosed with anxiety with the age of 22 and received
CBT to remediate her symptoms. Tina’s mother was diagnosed
with anxiety and depression in her young adulthood. Tina
explained she had to do most of the household chores due to her
mother’s depressive episodes. However, she stopped attending
therapy after 3 years of attending. Tina was employed as an
English teacher at a middle school.
Tina is currently unmedicated and not attending any form of
therapy for her anxiety. She recently visited her PCP and told her
about her intrusive and obsessive thoughts about handwashing,
stating she must wash her hands 5 times within one hour. Tina is
currently unemployed as the principle stated she is not attentive
to her class as she continuously leaves her students unattended
due to her handwashing. Tina also states she has trouble going to
social outings due to her fear of contamination of public places,
this increases her need to wash her hands ritualistically. As Tina
lives alone, she does her own household chores, one chore she
says has hindered her performance is laundry. Tina washes her
clothes 2 times every day, if she was out of the house, Tina washes
her clothes 3 times a day. Client states that the clothes are not
clean enough and she can feel the dirt. Tina often feels fatigue
during the day because overnight she feels as if her bed sheets are
contaminated. She often gets up in the middle of the night to wash
her sheets.
Hand washing ritual of washing hands 5 times every hour,
frequent cleaning of clothes and bedsheets, lack of social
participation, and fatigue
Contamination OCD
SSRIs: weight gain/loss, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite
CBT and ERP
