Title: YUMMY ICE CREAM!

Compounds play a big part in our everyday life, like for example, you can find compounds present in food, air,
cleaning chemicals, and literally in every object that you can see or touch. Compounds are made up of elements that are
chemically bonded by electrostatic forces. Compounds can be classified as ionic or covalent. An ionic compound is
formed when metal (cation) transfers its valence electron/s to a nonmetal (anion). The covalent compound is formed when
nonmetals share their valence electrons with another nonmetal.

MELC:
- Recognize different types of compounds (ionic or covalent) based on their properties such as melting point,
hardness, polarity, and electrical and thermal conductivity. (S9MT-IIb-14)

Materials: Activity sheet, ice cream mixture, crushed ice, salt, Zip lock bag/small jar, large jar, laboratory thermometer.

Tasks:
1) Prepare the ice cream mixture of your choice at home ahead of time.
2) Place the ice cream mixture on a small jar or a Zip lock bag and set it aside.
3) In a large container, place large amount of crushed ice container and place the ice cream mixture on it.
4) Measure the temperature of the set-up.
5) Sprinkle medium amount of salt on the ice surface, cover the set-up, and shake it well.
6) After 10 minutes, check whether the mixture is already solid/frozen. If not, sprinkle more salt and shake it again
for another 10 minutes until the you attain the ice cream consistency.
7) When the consistency is reached, check the temperature of the set-up before consuming the product.
8) Fill up the table below and answer the processing questions.
9) Please draw your set-up at the back.
10) Takes photos or videos and make a 1-minute video compilation of your experiment and submit it to your teacher.
