Appropriately
Instrument
V I E W
I N T ER The researcher prepares an interview
guide or schedule.
It contains the list of questions and
answer options.
The interview guide may contain close-
ended questions and a few open-ended
questions.
Using a recorder during the interview
will lessen the time to record and the
interview effect on the respondent.

watching the behaviour,
events or noting physical
characteristics in their
natural setting; can be
overt or covert.
The following must be standardized in
a quantitative observation
a Who is observed? What kinds of people are to be studied?

b. What is observed? What Variables are to be observed by the researcher?

c. When the observations are to take place?

d. Where the observations are to be carried out?

e. How the observations are to be done? This involves the extensive training of observers
to that they use the same procedures and so that high interrater reliability can be
obtained)
Characteristics of quantitative
observation :
a. Specific and detailed

b. Use close-ended questions

c. Confirmatory involving testing hypothesis

d. Deductive approach
Two essential ways on how to obtain
research instrument
1 . Find and administer a previously existing instrument of some
sort
2. Administer an instrument the researcher personally developed
or had developed by someone else.

TWO WAYS HOW THE DATA WILL BE ENTERED
IN THE RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
1 . RESEARCH-COMPLETED INSTRUMENT - it is a type of research
instrument completed by the researcher.

2 . SUBJECT-COMPLETED INSTRUMENT - it is a type of research

instrument administered by the researchers and completed
by the respondents.
