Rationale

Rice is eaten by about 3 billion people and is most common staple food of the largest number of

people on earth (Maclean et al., 2002). Rice is a fundamental food, supplying nearly all the daily calories

especially in Asia. Rice water retains after soaking or boiling rice is commonly consuming but, in general

rice water is discarded in many food preparation procedures worldwide. Meanwhile, rice water skin was

used especially among Asian women, became a tradition. In histories of hair care practices of Japanese

women and found a very close relationship between the two, in the court ladies of the Heian Period whose

beautiful long hair called suberakashi, reached to the floor were said to have combed their hair each day

using Yu – Su- Ru- (rinse water obtained from the washing rice).

In this study the researchers aim to create an alternative hair moisturizer and improving the

fragrance using lemon. The researcher observe that the rice rinse water is the starchy water left over

after rice is cooked or left to soak which is convenient and easy to find. Rice grains contain 75–80

percent starch. Rice water is the starchy water that remains after soaking or cooking rice. Rice water is a

natural, economic, and simple ingredient that can be incorporate into skincare products. It will be

obtained from different types of rice present.

Lemon [Citrus limon (L) Burm, F.] is one of the most important members of the large Rutaceae

family, including about 130 genera in seven subfamilies that used for several purposes throughout the

world. Lemon is a small evergreen tree that generally produced in temperature climates with a world

production totaling more than 160 million tons in 2014. It is also adapted to drier climates such as Iran.

During this year, commercial production of lemons was approximately 4.3 millon tons that harvested

from 25734 hectares in Iran.It is cultivated mainly for its alkaloids, which are having anticancer activities

and antibacterial potencial in crude extracts of different parts of Lemon against bacteraial strainshas been
reported (Kawaii et al., 2002). Essential oils which is acquired by cold pressing of the peel or distillation

of leaves are broadly applied as an aroma enhancer in beverages, bakery, and food products, also serves

as a flavoring agents in mask the unpleasant taste of drugs in pharmaceuticals and as fragrances in

perfumery and cosmetic industries.

Null Hypothesis

There is no significant effect of rice water as an alternative hair moisturizer and improving fragrance

using lemon in hair.

Engineering Goal

Risk and Safety

This study is biologically related so the researchers must identify the hazards and dangers

to make safety precautions about it. The study will make use of rice water. Moreover, it is used

in cosmetics for in hair so you must know and be aware about safety precautions so you must be

careful in applying the product.

The researchers also want to assure the safety of the people, participants and especially

themselves. The researcher who will be involved must be cautious by warning proper equipment

like hair nets, and surgical gloves for applying the hair moisturizer product. And also an apron, it

is necessary to use it in this study to prevent stains to their clothes while applying the product.

The researchers should work in a place with less hazards, risks and must consider a safe work

place. Before the rice water as an alternative hair moisturizer and improving the fragrance using

lemon, the researcher must test the safety of the product before using it to avoid any danger that

can cause to the participants.

The researchers should be familiarizing on how the tools and equipment’s works so it

will not present damage to the product and for the researchers. The study will involve sharp

materials: knife and grater. The researchers must be conscious in applying and testing the

product
