PED 119 Module 5 Assignment Task

SPORTS AND EXERCISE PSYCHOLOGY

RONNIE MANUEL I. CATALAN
BPED 2
Discuss comprehensively.
1. Base on your personal experiences, what particular instance in your life wherein you were
able to show or develop the following:

a. Commitment
- I think, the certain instance where I showed commitment is when I first engaged in a
romantic relationship. Because, ever since my first romantic love and I got together, until the
two of us broke up, I had never ever cheated on her because that's what I promised back when
I was courting her.

b. Decision-making
- I showed my decision-making skills back when I was deeply engaged on online gaming. I
was once a captain of a team and we all know what being a captain means. It means you are
the shot caller, you are the driving force of the team, the one who leads them to victory.

c. Drug use and control

- I have never tried physical enhancing drugs nor addictive drugs. Therefore, I do not have so
much to discuss regarding this item.

d. Emotional responses
- Whenever I get upset or stressed about something or someone, I run. I run and run and run
until I feel like my chest is going to burst.

e. Ethics
- “Gago” this term is normal to my ears. I do not deny the fact that I am a “gago” but, I am
“gago, pero may prinsipyo, may respeto”. Whenever there are sports or whatever contest or
gatherings, I see to it that I abide by their organizations’ rules or codes. And if by chance, I
get to help or remind someone about it.

2. How sports and exercise develop character?

Sports participation alone doesn't encourage the growth of good character. Organized
sports, however, play a significant role in character development when there is good coaching and
a willingness to giving everything while adhering to the rules. Organized sports help develop
teamwork, dedication to a common cause, coping mechanisms for difficult situations, and
graciousness and humility in the face of success. Again, this only occurs if parents offer a
positive example for their children. (Bad coaching or tolerating bad behavior might really result
in character development that is detrimental.)
Because they frequently place more emphasis on being active and educational than on
winning or losing, school-based physical education and sports typically provide the best path for
the development of desirable character traits. Even while there isn't much you can do to change
the PE policies at your school, it's still a good idea to be aware of them. If the programs don't
meet your needs, you can still engage in healthy physical activity.
