Topic: Identify Equipment in

Photography
Objectives:
At the end of the day, I will be able to:

a. understand what is a digital photography is;

b. identify the equipment needed in photography

Key Concepts:
Words, Formulas and Terminologies that they will encounter in this topic.

 Film- to make a motion picture of/or/from

 Photography- the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy
and specially light on a sensitive surface (such as film or an optical sensor)
 Essential- absolutely necessary; extremely important.
 Megapixels- This term refers to the size of an image, usually in reference to a photo
from a digital camera or camera phone.
 Array - an impressive display or range of a particular type of thing.
 ISO (International Organization for Standardization) - develop and publish
International Standards.
 Traditional- habitually done, used, or found.

Fuel – Up:
(Pre-activity – This contains the motive questions that triggers the theme of the lesson.

Picture Search:
Direction- Find and encircle the following words in the picture.

 Mobile phone
 Film Camera
 Tripod
 Component
 Umbrella
 Telescope
 Photo lighting
Discussion:
(This part includes the literary, figures, lectures, etc. test.)

What is digital photography?

If traditional photography uses film as the recording medium and undergoes a chemical
process, modern photography is heavily geared towards digital photography which is an
electronic process.

Digital photography uses an array of light sensitive sensors to capture the image
focused by the lens. This is totally opposed to an exposure on light sensitive film. The
captured image is stored as a digital file ready for digital processing, viewing, or printing.

Equipment in digital photography

Camera is the most essential tool in capturing and storing moments and event. It is a
device that stores images which may be a still photograph or a moving image such as
videos or movies.
But do not buy a camera yet. You need to ask yourself first how will you use the photos
you will take using that camera. Your answer will determine what type of camera is best for
you.

Then, decide which is important to you – the camera brand, the zoom, or the
megapixels. Do you intend to view it on screen? Or do you prefer to print it? Do you want to
print it for your Photo album, wallet, or wall/

Since you have an idea of the different types of photography, which among the types do
you intend to do most often?

Camera

Since buying a camera involves money,

you need to determine what types of
photographer you are. Since still in school,
can your budget afford this hobby?

Basically there are three types of camera:

point-and-shoot camera, advanced digital
camera, and digital sense lens reflex (DSLR)
camera. These are modern model as that use
an electronic camera sensor.

 Point-and-shoot camera- this

camera is small, compact, highly
simplified and automatic. This is
designed for travelling and is easily
accessible when you need to grab a
camera and quickly snap a shot or
two. Or maybe you do not want to
lug around a camera bag with lots of
accessories

 Advanced digital camera- this

camera type is more expensive than
a point-and-shoot camera. This
comes with different features and
has a larger camera body. This may
look like a DSLR, but it only comes
with a single zoom lens that cannot
be detached from its body. Its zoom
lens cannot be adjusted too.
However it offers more control over setting like manual focus adjustment,
exposure, and ISO settings.

 Digital sense lens reflex (DSLR)

camera- this type of camera is
bigger and heavier. It is mounted
with adjustable lenses.

The preference on the camera to

use really comes down to its
flexibility and the potential for higher
image quality and portability and
simplicity. This is not about your
budget, but more of a better choice for and given shooting environment and
intended photon use.

Compact cameras are much smaller, lighter, less expensive and less conspicuous, but SLR
cameras allow for a shallower depth of field, a greater range of subject styles and the potential
for higher image quality. Since you are still learning photography, a compact camera is
probably a better choice SLR cameras are much better suited to specific applications, and
when size and weigh are not important.

The advanced cameras can be classified according to the following features:

 Body: a light-tight compartment to house the recording medium

 Lens: a transparent element to focus light rays onto the recording medium
 Aperture: a method of controlling how much light reaches the recording medium
 Shutter: a method of controlling medium is exposed to the incoming light
 Viewfinder: a way to see the image that is to be capture
 transport: a method of moving the film and holding it in the correct position

Comprehension:

Direction: Answer the following question. Write your answer on the back of this
paper.

1. What is photography?
2. What is the importance of photography to as a Student?

Exercises:
Application

 Draw your own future desire of camera

 Draw it on the back portion of this paper
 Put a color to enhanced the drawing
Thought of the Day/ Reflection:

Direction: Identify the different types of camera and explain based on your own understanding.
