In this activity, you will write some lyrics for your very own Blues song.

Tell us about something

that's annoying, irritating or that you're struggling with!

Your Blues lyrics will follow a traditional 12 bar blues lyric pattern.

Here are the requirements:

There will be 3 lines and they will follow an A A B format. This means the first line (A) is sung twice
and the next line (B) is sung once

The word that's at the end of line A should rhyme with the word at the end of line B

Each line needs to fit into 4 bars (measures)

example1

A I woke up this morning and I found myself alone

A I woke up this morning and I found myself alone

A I got nothin' to do so I'll go play my trombone

In addition, the lyrics often follow a "problem-solution" pattern:

PROBLEM: I woke up this morning and I found myself alone

SOLUTION: I got nothin' to do so I'll go play my trombone I'm late for school 'cos the bus never came
I'll probably get detention and that's really lame

Now it's your turn to write some Blues lyrics.

Here are a few topics or problems that you might help you think of some ideas:

The wifi is down

I forgot my password

There’s no milk left

I’m stuck at home with my brother/sister

I can’t get a haircut

My phone battery died
