TCM Calibration: Enhancement To Shifting Performance & Smoothness
Applicability
Introduction
To enhance shifting performance and smoothness during acceleration, the Transmission Control
Module (TCM) calibration has been revised. Use the following repair procedure to address customer
concerns.
This TSIB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

Warranty Information
APPLICABLE WARRANTY
• This repair is covered under the Lexus Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 72
months or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

• The TCM should NOT be replaced as part of the repair procedure.

• The GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station (P/N 00002-MCGR8) supersedes the Automatic Trickle
Charger (P/N 00002-YA122-01) and Fast Battery Chargers (Associated P/N ASE6003 and
Christie P/N CAPPDQ). P/N 00002-YA122-01, ASE6003, and CAPPDQ are now obsolete.
Repair Procedure
1. Check for the Authorized Modifications Label affixed to the vehicle in the location shown in
Figure 1. Confirm if the TCM calibration has been updated. If the calibration ID listed is NOT the
latest TCM calibration — go to step 2.

NOTE
• The GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station MUST be used in Power Supply Mode to maintain
battery voltage at 13.5 volts while flash reprogramming the vehicle.
• For details on how to use the GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station, refer to the GR8 Instruction
Manual located on the Technical Information System (TIS), Diagnostics – Battery.
Follow the procedures outlined in TSIB No. SS002-07, “Techstream ECU Flash Reprogramming
Procedure”, and flash the TCM with the NEW calibration file update.
3. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature before test driving.
4. Test drive the vehicle to confirm proper vehicle operation and TCM initial learning.

5. If any of the following conditions still exist, check the automatic transaxle fluid level and adjust if
necessary.
• Shift Flare
• Harsh Downshift on Reacceleration
• “Jerk” Feeling on Reacceleration
Are any of the conditions above still present?
• YES — Remove and replace the automatic transaxle assembly w/torque converter.
NOTE
When the automatic transaxle is replaced, the transaxle compensation code MUST be
input into the TCM. After the automatic transaxle is reinstalled, the QR code label will be
positioned where the code cannot be read. Record the transaxle compensation code
BEFORE reinstalling the automatic transaxle.

• NO — Go to step 7.
6. After replacement of the transaxle assembly w/torque converter, enter the NEW transaxle
compensation code.
