 The main function of a rotating shaft is to transmit power
from one end of the line to the other.

 It needs a good supports to ensure stability and frictionless

rotation.

 The support for the shaft is known as bearing.

 The shaft has a" running fit" in a bearing. All bearing are
provided some lubrication arrangement to reduced friction
between shaft and bearing.
 Roller bearings also known as rolling-element bearings are
similar to ball bearings in that they are designed to carry a
load while minimizing friction.

 However, Roller bearing transmit loads using cylinder rolling

elements, rather than balls, to maintain the separation
between moving parts of the bearing.

 These versatile bearings can contain single or multiple rows

of rolling elements; multiple rows can significantly improve
radial load capacity. Also, the use of different roller shapes
can further reduce friction and support both radial and axial
loads.
Formation of protective film to:
 Reduce friction.
 Prevent corrosion.
 Remove wear particles and debris.
 Provide efficient cooling.
 Overall life improvement.
 to prevent metal-on-metal contact and protect
your equipment from wear.
 For intense friction and high-speed applications, an
oil is typically the best choice. But other
components that endure heavy loads or move
vertically typically require a grease. Grease is
engineered to stay in place and provide a longer
lasting barrier between metal components.
• Oil flows easily and is used in applications where a liquid
lubricant can be delivered effectively.

• Grease has a thicker consistency and is suitable for

applications where a more solid or adhesive lubricant is
needed.

• Oil is commonly used in engines and hydraulic systems,

• while grease is preferred in bearings, gears, and areas where

a more viscous lubricant is required.
