Directions: In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement
of reason (R). Mark the correct choice as:
(a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct explanation of
assertion (A).
(b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true but reason (R) is not the correct explanation of
assertion (A).
(c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
11. Assertion: If the net external force on the body is zero, then its acceleration is zero. 1
Reason: Acceleration does not depend on force.
12. Assertion: When a bullet is fired from a gun, there is a forward force on the bullet and recoil of 1
gun.
Reason: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
13. Assertion: Plant cells contain two types of plastids, chromoplasts and leucoplasts. Reason: 1
Animal cells contain only 1 type of plastid i.e., leucoplast.
14. Assertion: The air is a compound containing oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide and water 1
vapour in a fixed proportion according to their masses.
Reason: A compound is a substance whose composition of the components is fixed Le; they
combine together in a fixed ratio according to their masses.

SECTION – B
15. Give reason for the following. 2
a) Cork acts as a protective tissue.
b) Branches of a tree move and bend freely in high wind velocity.

3
16. List the constituents of plasma membrane. Why is plasma membrane called selectively 2
permeable membrane?
17. Water is a compound and not a mixture. Justify the statement with two points. 2
18. Mention any two differences between homogenous and heterogenous mixtures. 2

20. Which mixtures shows the Tyndal effect: milk in water/ sugar in water. Give reson. 2
21. Define uniform and non-uniform acceleration. 2
22. Define Inertia. Write an example to explain the property of inertia of motion. 2
23. Calculate the change in momentum of a car weighing 1500 kg when its speed increases from 36 2
km/h to 72 Km/h
24. The graph in below figure shows the positions of a body at different times. 2

(i) A to B
(ii) B to C and
(iii) C to D

(v) Find the acceleration of the car during each of the first two intervals of four second each.
37. A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances is called a true solution. It consists of solute 5
and solvent. The particle size of the true solution is less than 1 nanometer. A suspension is a
heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particle does not dissolve but remains suspended
throughout the bulk of the medium. A colloid is a mixture that is actually heterogeneous but
appears to be homogeneous as the particles are uniformly spread throughout the solution.

a) Which type of mixtures are most stable and why?

(b) If you keep the newspaper under the beaker containing suspension, will you be able to read
the letters of newspaper. Support your answer with a relevant reason.
(c) Arrange the mixtures according to the size of particles (in increasing order)
38. Meristematic tissues, or simply meristems, are tissues in which the cells remain forever young 5
and divide actively throughout the life of the plant. When a meristematic cell divides in two, the
new cell that remains in the meristem is called an initial, the other the derivative. As new cells
are added by repeated mitotic divisions of the initial cells, the derivatives are pushed farther
away from the zone of active division. They stretch, enlarge and differentiate into other types of
tissues as they mature. Meristematic cells are generally small and cuboidal with large nuclei,
small vacuoles, and thin walls.

(a) Draw a neat diagram of plant body, depicting the location of various meristems.
(b) How are meristematic tissue different from permanent tissues (give any two points)
(c ) Which type of meristematic tissue helped to increase the girth of plant?
