10th CBSE PHYSICS MARKS: 15

Q.1. M.C.Q (2 marks; 1 mark each)

1. An alpha particle is diverted towards west is deflected towards north by a field. The field is
magnetic. What will be the direction of field?
A) Towards south C) Downward
B) Towards east D) Upward
2. If R1 and R2 be the resistance of the filament of 40 W and 60 W respectively operating 220 V, then
A) R1 < R2 C) R1 = R2
B) R2 < R1 D) R1 ≥ R2
Q.2 Two statements are given-one labeled Assertion (A) and the other labeled Reason (R). Select the
correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below.
(2 marks; 1 mark each)
a) Both A and R are true, and R is correct explanation of the assertion.
b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
c) A is true, but R is false.
d) A is false, but R is true

3. Assertion (A): The strength of the magnetic field at the centre of a circular coil of a wire depends on
the radius of the coil
Reason (R): The strength of the magnetic field at the centre of a circular coil of a wire depends on the
number of turns of the wire in the coil.
4. Assertion (A): The resistivity of a substance does not depend on the length and area of the wire.
Reason (R): The resistivity of a substance is a characteristic property of the material.

Q.3 Answer the following (6 marks; 2 marks each)

11. Compute the heat generated while transferring 96000 coulomb of charge in two hours through a
potential difference of 40 V.
12. How many 40 W; 220 V lamps can be safely connected to a 220V, 5A line?
13. Alternating current has a frequency of 50 Hz. What is meant by this statement? How many times
does it change its direction in one second? Give reason for your answer.

Q.4 Answer the following (5 marks)

14. i) Define resistance of a conductor. (1)
ii) State the factors on which resistance of a conductor depends. (1)
iii) Name the device which is often used to change the resistance without changing the voltage
source in an electric circuit. (1)
iv) Calculate the resistance of 50 cm length of wire of cross sectional area 0.01 square mm and of
resistivity 5 × 10-8 Ω m. (2)
