KILN HYDRAULIC

THRUST DEVICE Presented By: ISRAR HUSSAIN

Instrument Engineer
Fluid power is called hydraulics when fluid is liquid and is
called pneumatics when the fluid is gas.

Hydraulic systems use liquids such as petroleum oil, synthetic

oil and water. The first hydraulic fluid used was water, it has
many deficiencies such as freezes readily, poor lubricant and
tends to rust metal components.

Kiln Hydraulic Thrust Device
The automatic hydraulic thrust device (HTD)
controls the kiln’s axial motion.
It counteracts the slope of the kiln and
ensures uniform use of the contact surfaces
between tyres and supporting rollers.
Fluid power is called hydraulics when fluid is liquid and is called pneumatics when
the fluid is gas.

Hydraulic systems use liquids such as petroleum oil, synthetic oil and water. The first
hydraulic fluid used was water, it has many deficiencies such as freezes readily, poor
lubricant and tends to rust metal components.

Both cylinders and motors are called as actuators.

Thrust Pressure and Kiln Floating
Thrust Pressure Kiln Floating
 Working pressure : 4~6MPa.  Upward /Downward Strokes: ± 20mm
 Allowable maximum pressure 8MPa  If upwards or downwards strokes reach
±30mm, send alarm signal to control center, in
order to deal it in time on site
Fault and Remedial Action
Oil Pump Failure
If the pump or pump motor should fail when the kiln is "in downward position", and the kiln must
be lifted to neutral position, this can be done by means of a hydraulic hand pump .
Throttle Valve malfunctioning
If the throttle valve fails then mechanical team will change in coming shutdown. (10063502).
 If any of electrical or supervisory component malfunctions , repair/replacement work has to
be done on priority basis.

Limit Switches
The ranges of upwards and
downwards strokes depend
on the position of upwards
limit switch 18 and
downwards limit switch19.
Kiln Float
Move the kiln up with a specified velocity (usually 3-4mm/h) using hydraulics, and move it
down under control. So that uniform contact and wear between the tyres and the supporting
rollers are ensured, the work of supporting roller adjustments is significantly simplified, and
prolong the service life.
Upward /Downward Strokes: ± 20mm
If upwards or downwards strokes reach ±30mm, send alarm signal to control center, in order to
deal it in time on site.
The above mentioned controlled stroke figures are allowed to be slightly adjusted the positions
of limit switches.
Accumulator
The accumulator absorbs and neutralizes pressure variations in the hydraulic system during
floating and overload. This ensures stable and smooth operation of the hydraulic system, and
minimises the risk of thrust roller damages.

UP Limit Switch Operation
When the thrust roller housing touches the limit
switch 18, the pump is stopped to stop the oil
supply to the thrust roller unit, at the same time,
the solenoid valve 7 (in oil returning way) is
energized and the valve keeps open the way of
relieving oil from cylinder to oil tank 3. So the
pressed oil in cylinder discharges to oil tank along
the direction of dashed line arrow in Figure by the
weight of kiln itself.
Down Limit Switch Operation
As the thrust roller housing touches the downwards limit switch 19, the solenoid valve is
reenergized and operated by spring to stop the oil way between the cylinder and oil tank. And
the oil pump is started again, the kiln travel upwards will occur.
Safety Valve and Max Allowable Pressure
In case that the oil pressure in the
system exceeds the stipulated allowable
pressure due to the oil line plugging or
other faults, the oil automatically opens
the valve of the safety valve13, and
overflows back to the oil tank. The
maximum allowable pressure in the
pipeline can be controlled by the spring
pressure in the regulating safety valve.
Pressure in the hydraulics system
generally should not be more than 11.7
MPa.
Return Filter
In order to prevent the throttle valve 8 in
the oil return way from blocking, the fine
filter 12 is set in the oil return way. In
case of the blockage of the filter, the
membrane inside the signaling device
will be moved due to the pressure lifting,
and accordingly the signaling return
circuit is connected.

Kiln Start Up and Hydraulic Mechanism
When the kiln starts up, the pump 10 is simultaneously( started when kiln rotary first time, left
cavity of oil tank should be filled with oil). The oil is supplied to cylinder 17 (see the direction of
solid line arrow), through the filters 6, the check-valve 11, stop valve, from oil tank 3 (Oil level in
tank should be higher than the suction pipe end of pump). The cylinder piston pushes the thrust
roller so that it raise the kiln upwards by pressure of oil, while the solenoid 7 is not energized.
