Learning Stations Activity. Spelling First and Last Names
Station 1: Name Recognition Task: Students will match the given Spanish first names to their
corresponding English translations. Questions:
Station 2: First Name Spelling Task: Students will practice spelling Spanish first names
correctly. Questions:
Station 3: Last Name Identification Task: Students will identify the country of origin for given
Spanish last names. Questions:
Station 4: Last Name Spelling Task: Students will practice spelling Spanish last names correctly.
Questions:
Station 5: Name Matching Task: Students will match the given Spanish first and last names
correctly. Questions:
1. Match the first name "Juan" with the appropriate last name: "Martinez," "Gonzalez," or
"Sanchez."
2. Can you match the last name "Perez" with the correct first name: "Ana," "Roberto," or
"Pedro"?
Station 6: Name Dictation Task: Students will listen to a recording and write down the Spanish
names they hear. Questions:
1. What are the first and last names you heard in the recording?
2. Can you spell the names you heard correctly?
Note: Ensure that clear instructions and examples are provided at each station to facilitate
independent learning and understanding.
Materials:
Procedure:
1. Divide the students into teams of 2-4 members each. Make sure each team has a paper
and pen.
2. Explain the objective of the activity and the rules.
3. Write a Spanish first name on the whiteboard or blackboard.
4. The first member of each team will come forward to the board.
5. You will announce a letter from the name, and the students will take turns spelling out
the name by writing one letter at a time on the board.
6. Each member of the team will have 10 seconds to write their letter before rotating to the
next member.
7. If a student misspells a letter, they will sit down, and the next team member will continue
from where the previous member left off.
8. Once a team successfully completes spelling the first name, they will sit down, and the
next team member will come forward to spell the last name.
9. Repeat steps 5-8 for the last name.
10. Keep track of the time taken by each team to complete spelling the names.
11. The team that accurately spells the names in the shortest time wins the round.
12. Repeat the activity with different Spanish names, rotating the team members.
13. After completing several rounds, tally the scores and declare the winning team.
Note: The teacher should ensure that the Spanish names used for the activity are appropriate and
culturally respectful. It is also essential to create an inclusive environment, allowing all students
to participate and feel comfortable during the activity.
Game Name: Trashcan Spelling Bee
Materials Needed:
Empty trashcan
Small soft objects (e.g., foam balls, rolled-up socks) for shooting
Scoreboard or any means of keeping score
Game Objective: The objective of Trashcan Spelling Bee is for students to review and
demonstrate their ability to accurately spell Spanish first and last names. Students will answer
review questions and earn points based on their accuracy and the difficulty of the question.
