How to Make a Good Cup of Tea

Making a good cup of tea is exquisitely simple. First, the teapot is heated by
filling it with water that has just come to a boil. This water is then discarded, and one
teaspoon of loose tea per cup is placed in the teapot (the exact amount may vary
according to taste). Fresh water that has just come to a boil is poured into the pot. A
good calculation is six ounces of water for each cup of tea. The tea must now steep for
three to five minutes; then it is poured through a strainer into a cup or mug. A pound of
loose tea will yield about two hundred cups of brewed tea. Using a tea bag eliminates
the strainer, but it is still best to make the tea in a teapot so that the water stays
sufficiently hot. The typical restaurant service—a cup of hot water with the tea bag on
the side—will not produce the best cup of tea because the water is never hot enough
when it reaches the table and because the tea should not be dunked in the water; the
water should be poured over the tea. Although tea in a pot often becomes too strong,
that problem can be dealt with very easily by adding more boiling water. (From: Scarry
S. and Scary J., 2011: 422)

Do you want to be a doctor but have reservations about the enormous debt
and years of commitment that come with medical school? A career as a physician
assistant (PA) might be the perfect compromise. Physician assistants are members
of a health-care team who practice medicine under the supervision of a physician or
surgeon. A physician spends four to five years in medical school, but most physician
assistant schools take only two years to complete. After passing a national exam to
obtain a license, physician assistants perform many of the same on-the-job activities
as a doctor does, including taking medical histories, examining and treating patients,
ordering and analyzing lab tests and x-rays, making diagnoses, and counseling
patients. Some patients have chronic health issues, such as diabetes or
hypertension. Another positive element of a career as a physician assistant is the
reasonable hours. As the nine-to-five workday becomes increasingly obsolete, most
physician assistants still work an average of 40 hours per week. Finally, the career of
a physician assistant is defined by its excellent pay and job security. Unlike many
recent college graduates who are forced to take low-level and poor-paying positions,
most certified physician assistants immediately find work in their fields and are well
compensated for it. Employment in this field is expected to grow by 30% between
2014 and 2024, much faster than the average for all other occupations. In addition,
according to the American Academy of Physician Assistants' Census Report,
physician assistants have a median income of $98,180. Therefore, being a physician
assistant means having a secure and high-paying career that offers daily challenges
in the medical field without as many years of schooling or the astronomical student
loans that come with being a doctor.
