a. Expressive
● Expresses how the speaker feels about the situation
● Reveals the speaker's attitude and emotions towards a particular preposition
● Thanking, apologizing, welcoming, deploring (meaning when you have disapproval of
something)

3. I’m sorry i didn't mean to hurt you
b. Commissive
● Speaker commits to doing something in the future
● Vows, threats, pledges, guarantees, contracts, promises, covenants and oaths

1. Starting next month i promise to wake up early
2. Honey ill be there tomorrow
3. I pledge allegiance to flag
4. When you bet about something
c. Representative
● acts in which the words state what the speaker believes to be the case
● Describing, claiming, insisting, predicting
i. Example
1. The earth is flat
2. It was a warm sunny day
d. Directive
● An act which commits the speaker to doing something in the future
● Speaker tries to make the receiver perform an action
● Ordering, commanding, requesting, pleading, begging, praying, insisting and suggesting

e. Declarative
● Brings change in the external situation
● An utterance changes the world in an immediate way
i. Example
1. During bidding,you are immediately stating that product is yours
2. “You are fired”
3. The words I hereby in “i hereby declare a total lockdown” is a declaration of a
big change
4. “The meeting is adjourned” it is a declaration to end the meeting

● An utterance intended to tell you how things are in the world
● Asserting confidence and the quality of tone of your voice is important
● The utterance comes of as the truth
● Statement, description, clarification, explanation and clarification
