“Before the flood”

The film “Before the flood” shows us how bad climate change is affecting the world. The
animals are dying. People’s homes are being destroyed because the sea level is rising.

Personally, the most shocking part about climate change as shown in the film, is how half of
the world’s coral reefs have already died in the last 30 years due to a higher water temperature
and water pollution. Islands like Kiribati are being flooded because of the rising sea level and
a lot of people lose their homes because of it. Also, the burning down of forests causes a lot of
damage to the habitat of thousands of animals while releasing a lot of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere.

Climate change impacts are already harming people’s health. People suffer due to air
pollution, droughts and subsequent famines. Water availability has become unpredictable in
many African countries, and because of that many people are worried of not having enough
water on a regular basis. My peers’ enviromental attitudes can be influenced by their school
activities as well as their family characteristics.

Governments can make a difference by supporting small local producers who care about
climate change, unlike large factories. Companies destroy forests to make room for palm oil
plantations, and governments need to stop it and protect forests like the Amazon rainforest.
They can also make a difference by introducing a carbon tax.

All of this leads me to the firm conclusion that climate change is the biggest problem facing
the world. Global warming is increasing everyday. It already damages our lives and health.
