Group Research Assignment 1 2023.
Module Assessment:

The module has 2 assessed elements:

 A group assignment task on the subject of 'Global Supply Chain' (outlined

below) contributes to 50% of your final grade.
 A group assignment task on the subject of 'Manufacturing Strategy'
contributes to 50% of your final grade.
Assignment Topic: Strategies to develop a resilient, sustainable, and
competitive global supply chain

Assignment 1
Your assignment is to work as a group to critically evaluate and select appropriate
strategies to develop a resilient, sustainable, and competitive global supply chain.

You are to produce 2000 words (Exclude Reference list) academic report.

Please note, critical discussion with support of a good range of literature (i.e,
Journal & conference articles) in your report will be highly considered in the
marks allocated to your group.

You must first select a manufacturing supply chain of your choice and follow the
below structure:

Section 1- Introduction
 Give a general introduction to the selected supply chain and its today’s
challenges for a broad audience
Section 2- Competitive advantage (see week 1 lecture and tutorial)
 Critically discuss whether the selected supply chain seeks cost advantage or
value advantage or both
 Elaborate how the above competitive advantage can be achieved in this

Section 3- Supply chain strategies (generic and global) (see weeks 2&3 lectures
and tutorials)
 Critically discuss appropriate supply chain strategies for the selected supply
chain along with critcal justification
Section 4- Resilient Supply Chain Management (see week 4 lecture and tutorial)
 Identify the risks to the selected supply chain
 Recommend strategies to improve this supply resiliency if the above risks
materialise
Section 5- Supply chain outsourcing (see week 5 lecture and tutorial)
 Identify processes that need to outsourced in the selected supply chain
 Explain the type of relationship that should be developed with outsourcing
suppliers
Section 6- Sustainable supply chain management (see week 6 lecture and tutorial)
 Discuss the actions taken by the selected supply chain in three dimensions of
sustainability (economic, social, environmental)
 Suggest actions that make the selected supply chain more sustainable

All submissions must conform to the SHU standard of APA 7 referencing

conventions.

Group Formation:

This assignment is to be carried out in groups of 5 students (with a minimum of 4

students). This is your responsibility to form your group by Week 27. Your Tutors will
form the group and enrol you on the group. All group members will be from one
Tutorial session. You must work with your allocated group to deliver your
assignment task. It is strongly recommended that you establish contact with all
members of your group as soon as possible. You must work together and
contribute equally to the task.

Note: The deadline for forming a group is week 27 (NO EXTENSION)

Contribution:

Important note: The groups are unchangeable.

All members of the group are expected to contribute equally to the task of analysing
research and preparing the report. You must work together on all aspects of the task.
Whilst group meetings are encouraged to discuss and exchange ideas, it is strongly
advised that you also use the group discussion boards, Google docs or similar online
portal systems to work on this task. This will assist with construction, compilation and
thus contribution and will improve access and communication between group
members.
There would be a milestone in WEEK 29 to discuss your progress/ issues with your
tutor during the tutorial session. If you encounter difficulties with your group, inform
your tutor in a progress review session, and you will have the full support of your
tutor to solve your problems. Groups that work well together generally tend to get
better marks.

Drafting Your Work

There is a folder in the assessment tab of the Bb site that will help with drafting your
work. This includes links to referencing, plagiarism and draft Turnitin submission
points. You can submit drafts to the 'Draft Turnitin Submission Point' as many times
as you like to check your work.
Important note: Please DO NOT use other modules Turnitin Submission Point to
check your similarity percentage.

Hand In

Your final group report: Submission must be submitted electronically via both the '
001 Written Assignment - Submission Point' and the 'Turnitin' submission point
marked 'Task 1 Turnitin Submission Point'. These can both be found on the
blackboard module site in the assessment tab. The file should be saved and
uploaded by one member of the group and the name of the file must include:

Tutorial number and group number at the beginning of the file name.

i.e. "Tutorial 6-1-Global supply chain" Please upload your work as a word
document and ensure all names of group members are included in the report and
formatting is correct before submission.

The deadline is 15th March 2023 by 15:00 pm. You will have 24 hours to submit
after this but without extenuating circumstances, your work will be capped at 50%.
Any element submitted after the 15:00 deadline without prior arrangement or
exceptional circumstances request may result in an award of zero marks for the task.

Support

Your lecturer will be available to discuss your progress and to provide some direction
with your research. This will be provided at class tutorials, by prior arrangement to
meet with the lecturer, or by e-mail response within 3 working days of your request.
A marking scheme for the report can be found attached.
