MUSIC OF SOUTHEAST ASIA


Numerous musical traditions and genres from several Southeast Asian nations are embodied in Southeast
Asian music. Eleven nations—Brazil, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—that are home to hundreds of different ethnic groups
make up this subregion. Due to the numerous languages spoken by the various regional groups
throughout the Asian subregion, there are thousands of different musical genres.

MUSIC OF INDIA
The Hindustani classical music of northern India is one of the two primary lineages of Indian classical
music.
and the Carnatic expression from South India. The classical music of India is known as the
subcontinent of India. Phrases like Marg Sangeet and Shastriya Sangeet are frequently used to
characterize it.

Vocal music

Dhrupad - is a style of Indian subcontinental Hindustani classical music. It is the oldest known major
vocal style connected to the South Indian Carnatic tradition and Haveli Sangeet of Pushtimarg
Sampradaya, Hindustani classical music.

Khyal – or Khayal is a prominent style of Indian subcontinental Hindustani classical music. Its name
derives from a word that means "imagination" in Persian and Arabic. In contrast to dhrupad, khyal is
connected to romantic poetry and gives the performer more artistic flexibility.

Tarana - is a kind of Hindustani classical vocal music composition in which some words with phonemes
from Arabic and Persian are delivered quickly or at a medium speed. The inventor of it is Amir Khusro.
The vocalist Amir Khan studied the word's history and syllables and contributed to its present
popularization.

INSTRUMENTS

Bansuri – is a bamboo flute used in Hindustani classical music. It is a transverse alto flute

Mridangam - is a double-sided drum that is played in drum ensembles and provides the beat for Carnatic
music. The goatskin drumheads are fastened to the sides of the instrument using leather thongs.
Sarangi - is a skin-covered resonator on a bowed stringed instrument (89.4.200). A single block of tun
wood, measuring between 66 and 69 centimeters in length, is typically used to make a traditional sarangi
by hand (46.34.43).

Sarod - is a stringed instrument that is utilized in Indian subcontinental Hindustani music. It is one of the
most well-known and well-liked instruments, along with the sitar

Ghatam - is the most widely used musical instrument in North India. It is made up of two hardwood hand
drums with taut goatskin tops. It sounds deeper in the bass range when played alone or in combination
with other instruments. The one drum, the Bayan, is marginally larger than the other.

ISRAEL
Music of Israel

A unique musical culture has been created in Israel via the blending of Jewish and non-Jewish musical
traditions over the period of a century. Musicians have been searching for unique stylistic components
that will characterize the burgeoning national spirit for about 150 years

VOCAL MUSIC
Israeli musicians have not only established an Israeli sound and style, but they have also significantly
influenced pop, rock, jazz, classical, and other foreign music genres. Israel's rock, folk, and jazz scenes
have flourished since the 1970s, with musicians developing and touring widely both domestically and
beyond.

Instruments

Kinnor - is the first musical instrument from the family of yoke lutes described in the Hebrew Bible, and it
dates back to ancient Israel. It was played with a plectrum when accompanying singing or dancing.

Shofar - is a historically significant musical instrument used in Jewish religious rituals that is usually
fashioned from a ram's horn. Similar to contemporary bugles, shofars do not have devices that change
pitch; instead, pitch is solely controlled by the player's embouchure

Oud - is a fretless stringed instrument of the Middle Eastern short-neck lute type, pear-shaped, and
typically has 11 strings arranged in six courses; however, some examples have five or seven courses, with
10 or 13 strings, respectively

Goblet Drum - is a goblet-shaped membranophone with a single head. It is most frequently employed in
Egyptian traditional music, where it is regarded as the national emblem of Shaabi music. Traditional
music from West Asia, North Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Europe also incorporates the instrument

Qanun - kanun, ganoun, or kanoon is an Arabic string instrument that is played throughout the Arab East
and Arab Maghreb region, or North Africa, either solo or more frequently in ensembles. As a result of
Arab migration, the instrument eventually made its way to West Africa and Central Asia. It was also
typical in classical Greece and Armenia.
