ENGINEERING PROTOTYPING LAB

Aim: Create an innovative street light using carpentry


and sheet metal.
Trades Included: Carpentry, Sheet Metal, Fitting.
Material Required: Wood for frame, Sheet metal for
covering, Light fixture, Screws and nails, Paint or sealant for
finishing
Tools Required: Saw, Hammer, Drill, Tape measure,
Screwdriver, Sheet metal shears, Paintbrush
Procedure:
Sketch the street light design on paper, focusing on
simplicity and functionality. Determine dimensions for
the wooden frame and sheet metal covering.
Cut wooden pieces using a saw and assemble them into a
stable frame. This will serve as the core structure of the
street light.
Cut sheet metal to match the frame dimensions. Attach it
securely to the wooden frame using screws, providing a
protective and decorative shell for the street light.
Fix the light fixture at the center of the wooden frame.
Connect the wiring neatly through the structure, ensuring
a safe and functional lighting system.
Sand the wooden frame for a smooth finish. Apply paint
or sealant to protect against weather elements and
enhance aesthetics.
Join all components, ensuring a sturdy assembly. Test the
lighting system to confirm proper functionality.

Precautions:
Wear safety glasses and gloves when working with
tools to protect yourself.
Measure accurately and cut precisely to maintain
the structural integrity of the street light.
Result:
A cost-effective and visually appealing street light, combining
carpentry and sheet metal work. This innovative design offers
a sustainable lighting solution, showcasing the potential of
traditional trades in modern applications for community
