PAST SIMPLE

TWORZENIE:
ZDANIA OZNAJMUJĄCE: subject + verb in 2 nd form or with “ed” ending
PYTANIA: Did + subject + verb in the basic form
PRZECZENIA: subject + did not (didn’t) + verb in the basic form
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
yesterday – wczoraj
the day before yesterday – przedwczoraj

UŻYCIE:
* Completed actions in the past
- I bought a new house one week ago .

UŻYCIE:
* past action in progress (past continuous) interrupted by another short action (past simple)

* Background description in narrative
It was a lovely day. The sun was shining, birds were chirping and everyone was swimming
in the sea.
* Changing states in the past:
- Things were getting worse and worse. More and more couples were falling apart.
- The patient was getting better and better. His temperature was going down gradually.
USED TO:
"Used to" expresses the idea that something was an old habit that stopped in the past. It
indicates that something was often repeated in the past, but it is not usually done now.
- I used to go swimming a lot (but I don’t now).
