    Newton's three laws of motion are: 1) an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force, 2) the acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and 3) for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Mass is a measure of an object's inertia, or resistance to changes in its motion, and inertia is directly proportional to mass. A force is a push or pull on an object due to its interaction with another object. Contact forces require direct physical contact while non-contact forces act over a distance.
