Legacy of Ancient Egypt.

Egypt is a fundamental part of the development of future civilizations and the modern world today.
Egypt has left many legacies that leave an impact on modern life, such as Architecture, science,
maths, medicine and Religion.

Religion

The ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to consider an afterlife. This is one of their legacies
since today many religions have conclusions about what happens after death.

Government and politics.

The Egyptians were the first civilization to develop an army. Their military force was not created until
the New Kingdom. Today with a few excepts, all countries have a military armed force.

Another Egyptian legacy was their form of government. Ancient Egypt was the first civilization to
have theocracy as their government structure. Theocracy government by divine guidance or by
officials who are regarded as divinely guided. In many theocracies, government leaders are
members of the clergy, and the state's legal system is based on religious law

Architecture

-the Egyptians built pyramids and structures that defined and developed architecture and
engineering we know today.

Visual arts

-art in Egypt was developed to new heights as the Egyptians elaborately decorated their tombs,
Pyramids, temples and constructed large sculptures and structures.

-Ancient Egyptian art often represented symbols and important figures. It also often tells stories
about their gods and historical events.

Equality

-Although it was forgotten for many years after the fall of the Egypt, equality was an established
concept in Egypt. In Egypt, women could work outside the home and had the same legal rights as
men. In addition, Egyptians were not defined by race but by their geography and religion.

Social Culture

-Beer and wine first came into existence in Ancient Egypt. It was a dominated aspect of Egyptian
entertainment. Beer was the national drink of Egypt. Today an estimated 10 000 000 Canadians drink
beer. It has become a part of many lives.
Medicine

-The Egyptians developed many methods for healing. They were the first to perform surgical
operations to remove tumours and cysts. They even developed cures for diseases that are still used
today.

-Much of this knowledge is found on their medical documents that they kept.

Inventions and Innovations

Papyrus Paper

-A form of paper made by the Egyptians from the papyrus plant found in the Nile River.

-It was major export of Egypt until the invention of paper.

-Today papyrus paper can still be purchased by tourists visiting Egypt and is also used for ecological
resources.

Calendar

-The Egyptians created the first 365-day Calendar. Their calendar was later developed by Julius
Caesar in 46AD adding a leap year every four years.

Astronomy

The Egyptians took a great interest in Astronomy. A lot of Knowledge we have today is based on
Egyptian observation during the ancient world. For instance, the Egyptians calculated the length of
one solar year.
