• The last of the three clay ATP500 tournaments in 2023 gets underway with the reigning champions No. 3 seed
Lorenzo Musetti, former champion No. 2 seed Andrey Rublev, two times semi-finalist No. 4 seed Alexander
Zverev and 2022 semi-finalist No. 5 seed Francisco Cerundolo. Joining them is the No. 1 seed Casper
Ruud, as the top seed for the first time in an ATP500 tournament this season.

• No. 1 seed Ruud is making his 4th main draw appearance at the event. Ruud made his main draw debut at
Hamburg European Open in 2018 while ranked No. 141 and he lost in the first round. In 2019 he came in
ranked No. 69 and reached the second round. In his last appearance in 2020 he defeated three Top 50 players
reaching semi-finals (I. to No. 14 Rublev). Ruud seeks his 2nd title of the year (d. Kecmanovic in Estoril Final).

• No. 2 seed and 2020 champion Rublev is coming fresh with a title win in Bastad. Besides the 2020 title, he
has a successful history in Hamburg, reaching another final in 2019. This is his 5th appearance at the event.

• No. 3 seed Musetti and No. 4 seed Zverev are both still seeking their first title in 2023. They both reached
ATP Tour semifinals on clay this season.

• Hamburg will see 5 home players in the field with Daniel Altmaier, Yannick Hanfmann and Alexander
Zverev being the direct entrances, Maximilian Marterer and Rudolf Molleker receiving the main draw
wildcards.
