MEDINA
 It exists in metals through the attraction
between the freely moving (delocalized) valence
electrons and the positively charged metal atom
 The valence of electrons of those metals atoms
are usually called “sea of electrons”
 Opaque- cannot see through them
 Lustrous-shiny appearance
 Hard
 High density- heavy for their size
 High tensile strength- resist being stretched
 High melting point- needs intense heat to
melt
 High boiling point- it makes metal durable to
use
 Good Conductor of Heat- heat can move
through it easily
 Good Conductor of Electricity
 Malleable- it can be shaped and flattened
which breaking apart
 Ductile- it can be melted down and shaped into
long skinny wires without breaking
 Iron or Steel is used to for the construction of bridges,
houses, automobile parts, etc.
 Aluminum is a light metal and a good conductor of electricity.
 The liquid metal mercury is used making thermometers
 Copper and aluminum are used to make electrical wiring
because it is a good conductor of electricity
 Sodium, titanium and zirconium metals are used in atomic
energies and space science projects
 Zinc is used for galvanizing iron to protect it from rusting
