A STUDY ON GENDER EQUALITY AT WORKPLACE PLACE CPF PVT LTD

INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC

Gender equality in workplace

All individuals should enjoy equal opportunities, rights, and duties. Everyone is affected by gender
inequality, including men, women, transgender and gender nonconforming people, children, and
families. It affects people of all ages and races.

We urgently need gender parity. Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It is
essential for the economy's stability. In safer and healthier cultures, men and women are valued equally.

The goal of gender equality in the workplace is to create generally equal opportunities and outcomes for
women and men individuals, but necessarily identical outcomes for all.

Workplace gender equality will be achieved when everyone has access to and can profit from the same
rewards, resources, and opportunities regardless of gender.

One component of gender discrimination at work is pay differences. Black women, LGBTQ+ women,
and other women of colour in particular continue to confront barriers when trying to climb into
leadership positions. Insensitive comments or questions made in reference to someone's race, ethnicity,
gender, or sexual orientation are also more likely to be directed at them.

Gender inequality in the workplace: What does it look like today?

A few examples of how gender inequality in the workplace presents itself include unfair pay, unequal
promotions, sexual harassment, and racism. It frequently shows itself in more covert ways, such through
fewer opportunities for moms and an increase in female burnout.

17
A STUDY ON GENDER EQUALITY AT WORKPLACE PLACE CPF PVT LTD

Unequal pay

Equal pay for men and women still does not exist. In 2020, women made 84% of what men made for the
same work, with Black and Latina women earning substantially less. The gender wage gap has persisted
over the past few years, with a 25-year drop of just 8 cents. Numerous issues need to be taken into
account, such as discrimination, unequal access to education, and "sticky floors" brought on by
ingrained social conventions that discourage women from entering better-paying careers and industries
where males predominate.

Women also suffer with the fear of salary negotiations and punishment if they do, particularly those who
experience intersectional realities like transgender and immigrant women. This idea was refuted by a
recent study, which found that although women request wage rises exactly as frequently as men do, they
do it 15% less frequently than men (20%).

Barriers to promotion

There is a "broken rung" at the manager level where "only 86 women get promoted to manager for every
100 men." This problem is made worse at higher levels of leadership since there are fewer women
managers who are qualified to be promoted to department heads, directors, and C-suite positions. It is
quite clear that there is a lack of representation: White men occupy 62% of C-suite roles; white women
hold 20% of these positions (higher than the 13% held by men of colour), while women of colour hold
only 4% of these positions.

Additionally, managers frequently search their personal networks for candidates for unfilled positions
(of the same gender, ethnicity, or identity), who are typically "people like them." This makes the
representation gap more enduring.

Bias against mother’s

Hiring managers are less likely to contact moms and women of childbearing age, even though their
resumes are exactly the same as those of men or childless women. This exemplifies how the
"work/family narrative," which portrays women as carers and moms, has gender biases. The (incorrect)
belief is that, particularly in high-level jobs, their dedication to their families and childcare renders
females less dedicated and unable to put in the long hours of their male coworkers.

18
A STUDY ON GENDER EQUALITY AT WORKPLACE PLACE CPF PVT LTD

The pandemic's "gender effect" dealt a further blow, leading almost 2 million women, primarily
mothers of small children, to consider changing their careers or leaving their employment.

Higher burnout in women

According to study, women are more likely than men to experience burnout and continuous stress at
work, especially those in higher-ranking positions. The gender gap in burnout nearly quadrupled as a
result of the pandemic. Women are more likely to accept "accommodations" like internal jobs or part-
time work as a result, which furthers their career derailment and promotes gender inequity .

Incidents of sexual harassment

The fact that 35% of American women experience sexual harassment at some point during their job is
evidence that sexism is accepted in the workplace. Additionally, unequal pay and advancement
opportunities may have a detrimental direct effect on sexual harassment.

Following the launch of the #MeToo movement in October 2017, instances of unwanted sexual
attention and sexual coercion reduced. However, there has been a discernible increase in hostility
towards women; in fact, a survey found that from 2016 to 2018, male coworkers' sexist remarks and
improper comments rose from 76% to 92%.

Experiences in racism

Compared to white women, women of colour and those with other marginalised identities are more
likely to face impolite or "othering" microaggressions including being questioned or interrupted. In
addition, there aren't many colleagues who can support women of colour. Less than half of white
employees who consider themselves allies to women of colour really take action, even in the most
fundamental ways, like speaking out against prejudice or pushing for more opportunities for women of
colour. This frequently happens because white women who identify as "allies" and women of colour
have very different ideas about what is advantageous.

CPF being very well know company having its branches in number of companies it’s the really
necessary for it to have gender equality at its workplace. The main purpose of this project is to check
whether CPF being a global company does follow gender equality.

equal opportunity to steer the company in the direction of sustainable growth. She added that CPF food
believes that differences will create value and be a key driving force that enables the organisation to be a
truly inclusive workplace and achieve its goal of being the "Kitchen of the World." "CP Foods is very
proud to receive this prestigious award as it reflects the success of the company in driving change in
gender equality and women empowerment," she said. The United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals are also in line with the gender-inclusive business strategy (SDGs).

A new generation of leaders has been developed, a mom room has been installed in operations across the
country, an LGBTQ+ club has been established, and the company has made significant strides in recent
years to promote diversity and inclusion within the organisation. Other initiatives include equal career

tolerance, which is socially and internationally accepted. This includes its overseas operations, business
partners, and farmers. In the UN Women 2022 Thailand WEPs Awards, more than 500 eminent
organisations from 19 different Asia-Pacific nations took part.

The Human Rights Award 2022 from Thailand's Ministry of Justice, the HR Asia Best Companies to
Work For in Asia 2022 Award from HR Asia magazine, and the Gold Medal in Human Rights at the
Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards 2021 were among the numerous awards that CP Foods received

inequality doesn’t happen in their organization. CPF has implemented several rules and regulations to
uplift gender equality at its workplace in all the countries where it is in operations. The following are
few of the observations that were observed during the study.

 The main branch of CPF located in Thailand is the most advanced when it comes to gender
equality. This branch has the most astonishing gender equality program compared to all of its
other branches.

 Both men and women are paid equally based on the position that they are working in . The salary
may even vary based on the work that they do the organization.

encouraged to work during the day. Soft work includes computer works than hard labor at
factories.

 Sanitary facilities are also provided in the workplace of the company.

 Thailand has also recognized the third gender and equal opportunity has been given to them as
well without discrimination.

 Company even encourages prospects belonging to third gender to apply for the job

 Equal opportunity to students who wish to study under the company’s scholarship scheme. The
selected students are then sent to study in Thailand at the companies own college.

 Under my study it was found that the company has around 40 % employees who are women.
These range at a age between 25 to 45 years.

 Specific designate harassment wing is also present in the company which is headed and run by
women. This wing makes sure that the women working on the company would never face
harassment or even take strict actions if any found.

CONCLUSION:

Gender equality at the workplace is a critical issue that has a significant impact on the success of any
organization, including CPF Pvt Ltd. Ensuring that all employees, regardless of gender, have equal
opportunities, treatment, and access to resources and benefits is essential for creating a fair and inclusive
workplace.

One of the key aspects of promoting gender equality is having fair hiring practices. This means
eliminating any gender biases in the recruitment process, and ensuring that all job candidates are
evaluated based solely on their skills and qualifications. This requires training for all those involved in
the hiring process, as well as regularly reviewing and updating recruitment policies to ensure they are
equitable

Another important aspect of gender equality is equal pay for equal work. This means that employees of
all genders should receive the same compensation for performing the same job duties, regardless of
gender. Closing the gender pay gap requires regular assessments of pay practices, and taking steps to
address any disparities that may exist. This can include conducting salary reviews, providing training
and education on fair pay practices, and promoting transparency in pay and compensation policies

Creating a diverse and inclusive work culture is also crucial for promoting gender equality. This can
include initiatives to increase the representation of women and other underrepresented groups in
leadership positions, as well as providing support and resources for employees of all genders. This can
also involve addressing workplace barriers that may prevent certain employees from thriving and
reaching their full potential, such as lack of flexibility in work arrangements, inadequate support for
caregiving responsibilities, and gender-based harassment or discrimination.

Ultimately, promoting gender equality at the workplace requires commitment and effort from all levels
of the organization, from management to employees. This means regularly reviewing and assessing
policies and practices to ensure they are equitable, providing training and education on gender equality,
and fostering a culture of openness and inclusiveness. By doing so, CPF Pvt Ltd can create a workplace
that is fair, productive, and supportive for all employees, and one that ultimately leads to improved
business performance and success.

In conclusion, gender equality at the workplace is a critical issue that has far-reaching implications for
the success of any organization. Ensuring equality requires a multifaceted approach that includes fair
