r1 = 0.35 m en massa m2 = 25.00 kg en straal r 2 = 0.25 m) die roteren rond een vaste
as door hun respectievelijke middelpunten.

At the end of the test you hand in a handwritten solution as well as 1 word
document containing all matlab code en corresponding plots. Write down your
arguments validating your results.
The figure shows a system consisting of two pulleys (with mass m 1 = 20.00 kg and
radius r1 = 0.35 m and mass m 2 = 25.00 kg and radius r 2 = 0.25 m) that rotate about a
fixed axis through their respective centers. These disks are connected with each
other by means of rope, containing a spring (k 1 = 50 N/m), as shown below. A particle
with mass m3 = 7.00 kg is attached to the disk m1, at a distance e = 0.30 m with
respect to the center of the disk.

Questions:
1) Use Hamilton's method to derive a set of equations of motion for this system.
2) Simulate the motion during the first 100 seconds, using following parameters:
starting from rest
starting from the position as shown in the figure
without any pre-tensioning of the spring
and with a torque in clockwise direction applied on the mass m 2 of 3.50 Nm.
Plot the relevant (angular) displacements of the system and the potential energy of
spring k1 over time.
3) Add two viscose friction elements:
a first element in parallel with the first spring (c1 = 0.10 Ns/m)
a second element is a torsional damper on the central axis through mass m 2
(c2 = 0.50 Nms/rad).
4) What is the (set of) equation(s) needed to determine the final position in rest
(using a dampened system)
Verify the result using data form your simulation
What is the lengths of the spring at that moment in time?
