2. Myrine has twice as many marbles as Mirel while Mirel has thrice as many
marbles as Machel. If Machel has 8 marbles, how many marbles do three
girls have in all?
Answer:
Given:
Machel – 8 marbles
Mirel – Thrice as many marbles as Machel – 8 × 3 = 24
Myrine – Twice as many marbles as Motel – 24 × 2 = 48
Solution:
8 24
×3 × 2
24 Mirel marbles 48 Myrine marbles
48 Myrine marbles 72
+ 24 Mirel marbles + 8 Machel marbles
72 80 Total of all marbles
Answer:
They have 80 marbles in all.

Let’s Create
1. Use any one-digit number and any operation to have a result of 12.
Answer:
6 + 6 = 12
4 + 8 = 12
4 × 3 = 12
6 × 2 = 12
2. Continue the multiplication below. Look for the pattern and give the value of the n.
Answer:
1x1=1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
111 1 × 111 1 = 1234321
111 11 × 111 11 = 123454321
111 111 × 111 111 = 12345654321
111 111 1 × 111 111 1 = 1234567654321
111 111 11 × 111 111 11 = 12345678765432
111 111 111 x 111 111 111 = 12345678987654321

Lesson 5
A. Speed Test
Answer the following. Be sure to indicate the time you start and end. (Answer)
5
B. Find the quotient by showing that division is repeated subtraction. (Answer)
1. 24 ÷ 8 = 3 24-8= 16 , 16-8= 8 , 8-8= 0
To get the number, we need to multiply the divisor and the qoutient.
Solution:
7
×9
63
When we divide 63 by 7 the quotient is 9.
63 ÷ 7 = 9
3. A vendor has 40 eggs which she arranged in trays, each containing 6 eggs. How many trays did
she use? How many eggs are in the last tray?
Answer:
Given:
Eggs = 40
Each trays containing 6 eggs
To get the number of trays she use in all and how many eggs in the last tray, we need to
divide 40 by 6 in which every trays is containing 6 eggs.
Solution:
Round off 40 ÷ 6 = 6.666...
We need to add all the passenger that went to a fieldtrip 58 children and 6 teachers. And
divide all the passenger in every private cars in which it only carry 8 passengers. To find the
answer of how many cars they use and if all the cars filled up with 8 passengers.
Solution:
Add: 58 Divide: 64 ÷ 8 = 8
+ 6
They used 8 cars in all.
64
And all the cars are filled up with 8 passengers.
5. Ramon saves from his daily allowance P50 every Monday, P40 on Tuesdays, P30 on
Wednesdays, P20 on Tuesdays and P10 on Fridays. From the amount he saved after four
weeks, he deposited P500, gave P60 to his church and spent the rest for an ice cream. How
much did he spend for and ice cream?
Answers:
Solution:
Monday=50 Tuesday=40 Wednesday=30 Thursday=20 Friday=10
50+40+30+20+10=150
150x4 weeks= 600
600 – 500 = 100
60 for church
100 – 60 = 40
1. How can you divide a square cake into eight equal parts with three straight cuts? Illustrate your
solution
Answer:
Remember one whole square cake and to divide it into 8 equal parts with only three straight cut,
Place the square cake flat on table. Grab a knife big enough to cut the cake horizontally. First cut,
slice it horizontally across the middle creating two equal halves top and bottom leaving the cake
flat on table as if the cake still in one single piece. Now you have 2 cakes instead of one. Second,
Viewing the cake from the top, make 1 cut vertically down the middle of the cake and another
horizontally. Viewing the cake from the side, make your third cut horizontally through the middle
in which it looks like in the form of cross. Now we have a 8 equal part pieces of cake.
2. Some dividends cannot be exactly divided by the divisor. The amount which remains after division
is completed is called remainder. For instance, when you divide 20 by 6, the answer is 3 (since 6 x 3
= 18), but there is a remainder of 2 (20 – 18 = 2).
To check, 6 x 3 + 2 = 18 + 2 = 20.
What is the sum of the possible remainders if the divisor is 20?
Answer:
For instance, the divisor is 20, when we divide 20 by 20 the answer is one.
To check the sum of the possible remainders this is the solution.
Solution:
