Part A
Question 1: Multiple Choice Questions [5 Marks]
1.1 In the particle model, the object in the motion diagram is replaced by ___________.

A a series of single points

B an arrow showing direction
C a scalar that is coloured green
D a large dot

1.2 Position-time graphs can be used to find the ____________ of an object.

A magnitude
B gravity
C velocity and position
D time interval

1.3 An object’s velocity is how fast it is moving and _______________.

A how far it has been.

B its instantaneous position
C its initial position
D in what direction it is moving

1.4 The slope of an object’s position-time graph is the _____________ of the object.

A distance
B position
C velocity
D displacement

1.5 Order the graphs according to the average speed,

from greatest average speed to least average speed.

A A, B, C, D
B B, C, D, A
C A, C, B, D
D D, C, A, B
Question 2: True or False [4 Marks]
Read the statement and answer it by writing either TRUE or FALSE as a response on the line.

2.1 A time interval is the difference between two locations. FALSE

2.2 The zero point in a coordinate system is called the resultant. FALSE
2.3 A scalar is a measurement that does not have a direction. TRUE
2.4 A vector has both location and direction. TRUE

Question 3: Short Response [10 Marks]

3.1 Draw the resultant vector for an object that travels 5 km East and then 7 km East.
Use your ruler: 1 cm = 1 km (3)

3.2 Refer to the graph below: a) At what position and time do Sara and
Mona intersect? (2)
(20:40)
b) What do intersecting lines on a position-time
graph mean? (1)
Intersecting lines indicate that the two objects
meet. (sara and mona meet)

3.3 Refer to the position-time graph below of a cart being pushed in the mall. (4)

a) This graph shows that the cart travelled a total

distance of
60 meters in 60 minutes.

b) Determine the position of the cart after 30 minutes.

40 m

c) How do you know that the velocity is constant?

The slope is constant OR its straight line.
Part B:
Question 4: Position-Time Graphs [11 Marks]

Refer to the table below about a moving bicycle to answer the following questions.

4.1 How much time has elapsed between 0 m and 40.0 m? (1)
4.0 sec
4.2 Calculate the average velocity of the object for the interval from 0.0 s to 5.0 s. (2)

a = (vf -vi) ÷ 5.0s = (80 – 0) m/s ÷ 5.0 s = 16 m/s²

4.3 Compare the distance that the bicycle has travelled between 3.0 s – 4.0 s and from 4.0 s
to 5.0 s?
From 3.0 s – 4.0 s, the bicycle travelled 10.0m
(2)
From 4.0 s to 5.0 s, the bicycle travelled 40.0 m

4.4 Compare the distance that the bicycle has travelled between 0.0 s – 4.0 s and from 4.0 s
to 5.0 s? (1)
N/A
4.5 Use the data in the table below to plot the points and draw a position-time graph.

Question 5: Calculation-Style Questions [10 Marks]
5.1 You have 6.0 hours to travel a distance of 140 km by bicycle.
How long will it take you to travel the first half at an average speed of 21 km/h?
HINT: Use your equation for motion
Show ALL working out! (4)

If you travel half-way, that means half of 140 km is 70 km. xf = 140 km xi = 70 km

Xf = vt + xi
Make t the subject of the problem.
t = (xf-xi) ÷ v
t = (140 -70) ÷ 21 km/h = 4.09 h or 4.1 h
5.2 Refer to the graph below.
a) What is the average velocity of the object whose motion is represented in this graph?
Show ALL working out. (4)

Choose 2 coordinates : initial (0 ; 50) final (25 ; 0)

v = (xf – xi) ÷ (tf – ti) = (0 – 50) ÷ (25 – 0) = - 2 m/s

b) What is the object’s average speed? (2)

The absolute value of the velocity is the

speed.
Speed = 2 m/s
