Ladies and gentlemen, this is leader of opposition. Debate makes everything clear. In this
case, presidential debate is very important. In order to know which candidate we should
choose, we have to know more about each candidate of president. By delivering their speech
in the debate, we can actually see which one is more professional and citizen-pro. We can
also see their personality through the way they utter their opinion, or rebuttals. This kind of
debate has many benefits to the citizen to actually make sure their vote. For many
organization, both social organization and business organization, it may be the key for them
to vote the one who will benefit their organization.

Debate in general has goal to distinguish which one has more knowledge and which one has
more understanding about the topic or motion that is being debated – or we can say which
one is more convincing. In presidential debate, the candidates are challenged to show their
knowledge about the problems that are happening in society.

Let me make this clear. There are at least 2 benefits of presidential debate. First, public or
society can see to what extent the vision and mission of each candidate. Second, it becomes
a reference for swing voters, first-time voters in determining their choice.

For example, the public can see how far the vision and mission of the pair number 01 Joko
Widodo-Makruf Amin and serial number 02 Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno in their plans to lead
Indonesia. Also, The first-time voters can determine for instance that Prabowo-Sandiaga has
more interest in how to increase the national economic. Voters can also find out that
Prabowo-Sandiaga supports the local business to grow and generating revenue. This is just an
example.

Next, let’s see from the un-benefit of presidential debate. According to compass.com
presidential debate can trigger the both sides to attack each other, like mocking each other
or something like that. But this is often not happen if the both sides of supporters are
educated.

Ladies and gentlemen, We have already known that presidential debate can help us
determine our choice and this will lead us to better government. So, presidential debate
brings more good than harm for the citizens. Thank you.

Like my friend had explained earlier that debate is to make everything clear. With the
presidential debate, we can also find out the characteristics of the candidates. To begin with,
no matter how messy presidential debate is. Presidential debate is still important because
one of them will be chosen to lead the country.

Presidential debate is a place for the candidates to persuade the public to vote for them by
explaining their vision and mission. In the first debate, the candidates will attack each other
personally and answered the question as best as they can. Here the public will see how the
candidates will solve the issues.

Not only by the content of their debate but also how have they delivered their debate, like
eye contact, gestures, and attitude. From there we can know the personality of the person
who will be chosen.

For example, during the Jokowi-Makruf Amin and Prabowo-Sandiaga debates. According to
Abdul Chalik, a debate observer from UNISA Surabaya, serial number 01 Jokowi had
mastered the material better than serial number 02 Prabowo. But Jokowi was easily agitated
and sensitive when provoked by opponents. Meanwhile, serial number 02 Prabowo had a
better understanding of national issues. But he did not provide a solid solution and blamed
the other party. Now, we know their personalities better.

Because of that, the presidential debate is bringing us, the citizen, more good than harm.
Seeing how they are debating with each other, how they responded, and how their
personalities are helping us to know who the better candidates are. That’s all from me thank

Well, with all the statements that my friends have explained that there are already many
advantages or benefits for citizens watching the presidential debates. We, as the audience
and also Indonesian citizens, will of course also screen and assess what the candidates are
doing in the debate area.

As reported in Tagar.id, these advantages include that citizens can have an open mind for
things such as the pluses and minuses of candidates, get information related to programs
from each candidate, so citizens can have an idea of what if one of the candidates will won
elected, because if something unexpected happens, such as being slow in handling a
problem, whether it's a big problem or a small problem, citizens can collect promises made
when they put forward the vision and mission of each candidate.

So the conclusion is, we Indonesian citizens need a transparent, open picture, and plan of
every election, because none other than this is for the welfare of all Indonesian people. And
with this big discussion, as citizens of Indonesia, we have the right to participate in planning
the future of the country. Thank you.
