A study on sales at premium chick feeds private
limited

Abstract
The company started as a feed manufacturing unit with its 1st feed plant at Tadwagle, Alibaug with a capacity of
600 tons per month. Today the company operates 6 feed plants. The company is in the midst of constructing a
fully automatic feed plant which will be ready by 2015 with a capacity of 8,000 tons per month. The company, as
of today, manufactures 20,000 tons of feed per month.

1. Introduction
Contract farming is bi-party agreements made between a
farmers and the company where the company provides day old
chicks, feed, medication and technical assistance. Contract
Farming is an essential component of the broiler integration
model adopted by the company. Integration reduces the cost
at each stage of production and enhances quality. This model
helps us contribute to the development of rural India by cre-
ating employment, increasing incomes and improving liveli-
hood. Hatcheries incubate fertilized eggs and produce day
old chicks. Premium chick feeds has 11 hatcheries including
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Total capacity is 14lacs chicks weekly. Hatching takes about
21 days. The process involves two steps Incubation (setting)
and hatching.
2. Objectives
Hatching - On the 18th day, eggs are removed from the set-

ter and transferred to hatchers. On hatch day i.e. 21st day, the
eggs hatch and chicks are removed from trays. Chicks are in-
spected and substandard chicks are discarded. The chicks are
vaccinated, counted and loaded into trucks to be transported to
the broiler farms. Daily sanitization of transportation vehicles
is done to prevent any diseases or viruses from entering the
farms.
3. Review of Literature
Hatching Egg Production Process-Males and females are
raised separately before being moved to the layer breeder
farms with the ratio of 12 females to 1 male. Egg production
starts at 24th-26th weeks of age and continues till the 68th
week. Production percentage is around 80-85 percentage
which gradually declines with age. The peak percentage is
between 32nd-39thweeks. Egg fertilization is done through
Artificial Insemination (A.I) to ensure optimum results. Eggs
are collected every hour of the day. Cracked, undersized,
oversized, double yolk eggs are separated as they are not
suitable for hatching. The eggs are then fumigated, packed
in trays and stored in a cold room between 16◦ C-18◦ C from
where they are finally transported to the hatcheries.
4. Research Methodology

20,000 tons of feed per month.The company has a policy of

uncompromising adherence to quality of raw materials used
for making different kind of feeds and concentrates. With
this, we offer one of the best quality feed brands in the market
ensuring quality performance by the birds.

5. Findings
1. Premium invests in the best technology and infrastruc-
ture, the company has an innovative Research.
2. It has since grown to have its operations in Andhra
Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and throughout
Maharashtra.
3. The company has created its name in the market for
consistently supplying quality products and has now achieved
a turnover of Rs. 600 crores as of date.
4. Some of the key products are Poultry Pellet Feed for
Broiler birds, (Starter and Finisher).
5. The Company is in the business of Feed Sales to Indi-
vidual Open farmers.
6. From a humble beginning as a local feed manufacturing
company, Premium today operates in 5 states - Maharashtra,
Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka.

6. Conclusion
Premium Hatchery Pvt. Limited, was started during the
year 1995, with the setting up of a breeding farm next to
Kamshet, Dist Pune, Maharashtra and the hatchery in Kol-
ghar, near Poynad. With the setting up of these facilities, the
company started selling Day Old Broiler Chicks to poultry
farmers.Integrated Poultry farming was started by the com-
pany, during the year 2000, with branches across the state of
Maharashtra. The company has since spread its operations
in other parts of India and has branches in Andhra Pradesh
and West Bengal. The Company is in the business of Feed
Sales to Individual Open farmers. The company maintains its
reputation for its quality in the feed it sells. Some of the key
