I. EVENT DETAILS
II. RATIONALE
In pursuant to Republic Act 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act of 2000, and Republic Act 10121, the Philippine Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Act of 2010, our organization hereby propose a
project entitled, "Bagong Taon, Bagong Butil." This initiative is a dual-purpose
endeavor that combines coastal clean-up and tree planting activities that aims to
not only comply with existing laws but also to cultivate a culture of environmental
responsibility among students and address the pressing environmental issues faced
by our coastal community.
Furthermore, DepEd Order No. 72, series of 2019, encourages schools to take
a proactive role in environmental protection. This project not only fulfills the
spirit of this directive but also aligns with the broader objectives of the National
Greening Program and the Sustainable Development Goals. The coastal cleanup
component directly addresses waste management concerns outlined in RA 9003,
contributing to the reduction of marine debris and promoting a cleaner, healthier
environment.
III. OVERVIEW
In celebration of the Christmas, this upcoming 26 of December, the Youth for
Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) of Bangui National High School
aims to conduct a non- school-based program for the officers of this institution.

meaningful and environmentally impactful celebration. Focused on coastal
cleanup and tree planting activities, the project seeks to engage students in

COASTAL CLEAN UP
I. ADDITIONAL ELUCIDATION
Ocean litter is a significant source of pollution that has an impact on local economies,
marine life, and public health. By collecting the trash that tourists and locals leave behind on
our beaches each day, our coastal clean-up initiative invites coastal stewards to visit our
beaches and contribute to the reduction of this issue. Every year tons of garbage and marine
debris wind up in our seas and coastlines, with majority of that being composed of plastic
materials. Plastics are very hazardous to marine life, killing immense number of fish in our
ocean.
The purpose of the coastal clean-up is to engage students to remove trash and debris
from beaches and waterways, to identify the sources of the litter, and to change the behaviors
that cause pollution. In addition to stimulating action, coastal cleanups increase public
awareness about the accumulation and negative impacts of litter in oceans, on coastlines and on
beaches. Marine litter is any “persistent, manufactured or processed solid material, that is
discarded, disposed of, or abandoned in the marine and coastal environment”. Its sources can
be land-based, such as landfills, rivers and inland waterways, areas where solid waste is
carelessly disposed, as well as, ocean-based, for example, through fishing vessels and offshore
oil platforms. One of the main objectives of coastal cleanups is to document the types and
quantity of trash collected, and this information can assist in the analysis of waste management
practices. Marine litter affects everyone, and greater understanding of its origins and impacts
will serve as the basis for the collective action needed to control, prevent and/or reduce its
impacts.
Throwing of waste product along the shore of Barangay San Lorenzo is observed as
the population increases. Difficulties in controlling its residence on proper disposal of their
garbage has been a problem to its environment. As part of the main objective of the proposed
project, a coastal clean-up along the shore of Brgy. San Lorenzo as well as its nearby areas will
be conducted. This aims to promote a better environment for the residents of the barangay.
This will encourage them to maintain the cleanliness and will hone one’s ability to get along
with others aside from helping them live in a better environment. This would also help
minimize the garbage in the coastal areas, prevent diseases caused by improper waste disposal
and provide abundant opportunities for the residents especially the fishermen and indigents
living in the coastal areas

TREE PLANTING
I. ADDITIONAL ELUCIDATION
We depend entirely on a healthy natural environment for our wealth and well-
being. It is vital to our economy and social structures, our homes and neighborhoods, our
capacity to construct things, and to our health and happiness. The protection and preservation of
the environment is one of the important measures to combat the continuous destruction of our
Mother Earth, which we tend to ignore. As the human activities continue, the natural
environment is also being destroyed. However, it’s never too late to make our actions in order to
save the environment.
Hence, there is a need for a collaborative effort between the state and its citizens
to combat the loss of our natural resources and rejuvenate our environment by undertaking tree
planting activities and providing effective measures for their maintenance and sustainability.
Therefore, this program will be implemented in Bangui National High School in order to increase
the amount of trees in the locality. This activity will not just be beneficial for the said school, but
it also prevents the worsening results of global warming throughout the world. This program will
be implemented in the site that the barangay officials would permit the students to do the tree
planting activity with the recommendation of the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR).
Trees are essential to our world and offer a wide range of benefits to our
environment. The benefits from these trees spread far beyond villages to our homes in Cities,
School And Communities as well. Trees increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements
and wildlife habitats into urban settings.
In the efforts to preserve, conserve and protect Mother Nature, and ultimately the
Earth, the schools YES-O Club came up with the idea of conducting a tree planting activity. Tree
planting is the most effective and relevant way to do it. With tree planting, even a small effort
makes a huge difference in leaving an on-going environmental legacy in life. As a result of
participating in this activity, the student leaders and club members can achieve a sense of
satisfaction and accomplishment, knowing that they can made a positive difference
