What Are Challenges?

Challenges include the setbacks, difficulties, and
roadblocks that get in our way. The truth is that
challenges and setbacks are part of life. We all
experience some challenges throughout our lives.

Challenges can come in many different forms.

Sometimes a challenge can be a difficult event or
struggle in your life, like having to change schools,
dealing with a conflict with a friend, or having a
stressful long-term project to work through.

Challenges can also include setbacks or roadblocks that get in your way
of accomplishing your goals. This could be not making a team you tried
out for or having someone telling you that you can’t accomplish
something you had your heart set on.

It goes without saying that dealing with challenges and setbacks can be
difficult. The good news is that you can learn strategies to help you
cope with challenges that come your way. In many cases, working
through challenges can even teach you valuable lessons and build your
confidence. With skills, strategies, and supports, you can become
stronger and more resilient!

Why is it important to learn skills for coping with challenges?

What Makes Me Unique

You are unique. Being unique helps us stand out in a crowd. Plus, let’s face it
- it would be so boring if we were all the same.

Becoming Resilient
One of the biggest indicators in successful kids and even adults is their
ability to be resilient. Being resilient means being able to bounce back after
challenges and setbacks.

Some qualities that help to be resilient include:

H a v i n g a p o s i t i v e a t t i t u d e – Starting with a positive frame of mind

allows you to accomplish things. This includes having positive thoughts and
pushing the negative ones away.

B e i n g o p t i m i s t i c – This means seeing the bright side of things instead

of focusing on the negative.

R e g u l a t i n g e m o t i o n s – This includes being able to control our own

emotions, even at times when we’re sad, nervous, or angry. Being able to
control those emotions helps us think more clearly and make better decisions.

H a v i n g a g r o w t h m i n d s e t – This means seeing difficult situations as

challenges that help us grow and seeing failures as chances to learn
something.
