Boomwhacker Rules
1. DO NOT PLAY UNLESS ASKED.
2. Don’t hit anyone with a boomwhacker.
3. Don’t hit the boomwhackers too hard. This will dent them and eventually
make them unusable.
Class Teamwork Challenges
1. Put boomwhackers “In Order” What do you think “In Order” means?
2. If we want to make sure that everyone has the same number of
boomwhackers, how many does each student get?
3. Decide as a class how to divide up who gets what boomwhacker in a fair way.
4. Decide as a class how you should sit. Should it be “in order” or should the
same type sit together?

Optional challenges- based on available equipment

1a. Put boomwhackers “In order” on the floor piano. Match up the pitches.
1b. Use the “Octave” caps. What do they do? What is an octave?
This is a BIG “C”
If you have a red
boomwhacker play it
together on the count of 3
This is a little “C”
If you have a little red
boomwhacker play it
together on the count of 3
Both “C” (little and big)
boomwhackers- play
them together on the
count of 3
This is a “D.” If you have an
orange boomwhacker play it
together on the count of 3
This is an “E.” If you have a
yellow boomwhacker play it
together on the count of 3
This is an “F.” If you have a
light green boomwhacker
play it together on the count
of 3
This is a “G.” If you have a
dark green boomwhacker
play it together on the count

This is an “A.” If you have a
purple boomwhacker play it
together on the count of 3
This is a “B.” If you have a
pink boomwhacker play it
together on the count of 3
Now let’s do some Combinations! Go together on
the count of 3. If you are not playing, please help
count.

Let’s practice timing. The “Tempo” is how fast or
slow our beat is. First let’s try a steady slow
(LENTO) tempo for 8 beats.
Now let’s try a medium tempo for 8 beats (Andante)
Now we will do a slightly faster tempo (ALLEGRO)
Now let’s try a very fast tempo (PRESTO)
Play the rainbow! For this class challenge, you must
play the boomwhackers in order without missing a
beat. This is called a “scale” Remember to follow the
tempo.
C D E F G A B C
Now we are going to mix it up some more. This
pattern uses every other note from C to G up and
down. It is called an “Arpeggio”

C E D F E G F D C
This arpeggio pattern uses every other note from G
to high D up and down.

G B A C B D C A G
This arpeggio pattern uses every other note from G
to high D up and down. The D needs to be the
highest note so we must use octave caps on all the
other notes.
