PLAN OF INVESTIGATION
In this School Based Assessment, my group will be covering the general topic of
Crime. The subtopic I have chosen to research on is “Teenagers involvement in crime”. My
reason for selecting this subtopic is the rise of youth violence within my community.
The benefits I will obtain are the improvement of my researching skills along with my
analytic and writing skills.
The artifacts I will be using to obtain data for my research is a video from WHO, a
poem by poemhunter.com and an article titled “Youth Violence” also from WHO. These
artifacts will be analyzed to extract data.

3
Reflection 1

My first artifact is that of a written article from World Health Organization (WHO) on youth
violence. This article’s usage of factual global statistics gave me a general understanding of
youth violence. The article laid a solid foundation for my research.
Secondly, my second artifact is a poem titled “Juvenile Delinquency Causes or Symptoms”
by poemhunter.com, 2002. The author emphasized the sad reality of youth violence becoming
increasingly high over this generation. This gives me a concerning attitude towards the
subject of youth violence in today’s generation whilst also pondering on the author opinions
placed forward.
Thirdly, upon examining my third artifact, a video titled “Youth Violence” by CDC, I have
obtained a better understanding of the scope of youth violence whilst also it being in the most
basic and straightforward way in which I can easily be able to utilize the information to my
benefit.

Reflection 2
4
My written artifact is a written article on youth violence by WHO. The artifact using facts
rather than opinion states its credibility as a source. The usage of factual statistical data puts
emphasis on the seriousness of the topic of youth violence, also laying its foundation out as
an expository writing piece.
My second artifact is a poem titled Youth Violence Causes or Symptoms” by
poemhunter.com. The author’s curious tone with usage of rhetorical questions leaves space
for the audience to question the severity of youth violence and gives the author opportunity to
convincingly put forward his opinions for the readers to divulge into.
My third artifact is a video by WHO titled “Youth Violence”. The video utilizes facts with
global statistical data highlighting the major problem of youth violence whilst also remaining
unbiased and simple for viewers to comprehend.
These three artifacts are suitable for usage in research.

prevalent. The required need to analyze my artefacts on a more in-depth level to obtain
specific and required data sharpened my skills in analyzing. I am now able to easily obtain
relevant data necessary for my English Language School Based Assessment

Group Report
Within our report, we would have chosen a poem from Jeremiah Moore’s artifacts, entitled
Juvenile Delinquents, by an anonymous person from 2002, found on poemhunter.com. which
entails the author curiosity and concern on the modern issue of youth violence in society. An
article from Aliyah Goring, extracted from Kaieteur News by Clairmont Featherstone
speaking about the strong link between poverty and crime and lastly, an article from Tianna
Moore, which depicts the struggles the victims must overcome from this act against their
rights.
Jeremiah’s poem gives a brief overview on the causes and consequences of juvenile
delinquents in the use of rhythmic elements and rhetorical questions. The author uses his
personal opinions along with factual statements. Additionally, it shines a light on the harsh
realities of youth violence, inviting readers to contemplate its underlying factors and
consequences.
Tianna's article explores the emotions of victims and offenders. The article sheds light on the
enduring struggles victims faces post-attack, highlighting the lasting impact on their lives.
This piece emphasizes the often-overlooked consequences of crime, focusing on the human
toll it exacts.
Aliyah’s piece of writing argues that there is a strong link between poverty and crime,
contrary to a previous editorial's stance. The article refutes the idea that poverty doesn't cause
crime. However, it notes that urbanization and economic challenges have brought crime to
rural areas, leading to various societal issues and illegal activities.
The ideas and views of each piece of writing were in line with the ideas and views of the
researcher however the heavy effects of crime have been a surprising factor to the researchers
who were deeply saddened by such effects. Furthermore, it may be conclusive that each
writer realized a pertinent problem within society and produce pieces of literature to voice
their concerns and did so effectively.

Plan of Oral Presentation
 Introduction- Good afternoon miss and fellow students. Within my School Based
Assessment, my topic would have been “Crime” and I would have chosen the subtopic
“Teenagers involvement in crime”. For my presentation, I would have composed a poem
based on this subtopic. My poem highlights the conflict endured as result of youth
violence and the consequence of it.
 The television speaks,
A deafening silence befalls the room.
A mother’s cries, woes of sorrow.
A father’s shock, pain, and anger alike

A lack of moral values starts in the house.

A deadly disease, spreads to the streets
A crippling life ends in the grave.
A carnival of misery, circus of sorrow

Death in the home, silence abound.

The grim reaper smiles at the door.
Another young soul ripped away,
Gone but not forgotten.

The surviving eyes watch on in fear.

Seeking hope, seeking life
The struggle of uncertainty,
fear of what’s to become.
