Homework 7
Homework 7
Please submit this assignment per your GSI’s instructions—either in hard copy or on Canvas.
Activity 1:
Study and rehearse arpeggiating the given progressions below on movable scale-degree numbers. Once
you feel comfortable arpeggiating the progression, record a video of yourself performing it, and upload it to
the “Homework 7” location on Canvas. A sample is provided.
Provide a “zoomed out” harmonic function (H.F.) analysis (T, PD, D labels) for each progression beneath
the Roman numerals.

Activity 2:
Listen to the appropriate recording on Canvas and complete a harmonic dictation by: (1) notating the missing soprano and bass notes (the first notes
are given); (2) labelling the key and providing a harmonic (Roman numeral) analysis; (3) labelling all cadences above the staff; and (4) providing one level
of harmonic function (H.F.) analysis (T, PD, and D labels) beneath your Roman numerals. The recording begins with a short progression to tonicize
the key, followed by one measure of drum fill to set the tempo. Strive to complete the exercise with 6 listenings.
Key: _______
H.F. Analysis:
(zoomed out)
Activity 3:
Consider Rogers & Ottman structured improvisation exercise 6.67 (p. 104, 10th Edition). Follow the instructions printed in the textbook to craft your
own improvisation. You may wish to write out your improvisation before rehearsing and preparing to record it. As always, please use movable scale-
degree numbers.
Once you are satisfied with your improvisation and feel comfortable performing it, record a video of yourself conducting while you sing, and
upload it to the “Homework 7” location on Canvas.
Lastly, conclude your video by offering a brief self-reflection on the successes and challenges you encountered while preparing and
completing/performing this entire homework assignment.
