Inferring the Purpose of Virtual Media

- Visual media is a means of presenting information through a visible kind of medium such as images,
infographics, slide presentations, graphic organizers, videos, etc.

There are a few common purposes of visual media used today:

1. To inform
2. To persuade
3. To amuse or entertain
4. To enlighten

Accuracy – refers to the ability to recognize words correctly without committing many mistakes and without
skipping several unfamiliar words.

Rate – refers to the appropriate speed while reading

Literary Terms – are words used to talk about literary texts, as well as to analyze them.

Gathering Relevant Information from Online References

Doing research is easier now with the Internet providing a host of useful references for you to read.

Remember to use the ABC Criteria in evaluating websites
1. Authority – “Who wrote the article?” Is the author an expert on the topic?
2. oBjectivity – Is the reference objective? Try to infer the purpose of the writer
3. Currency – currency is all about how recent the information is. “When was this information published?”

Writing a Four-Paragraph Composition Showing Cause and Effect

- Writing a composition that tells the reasons why a certain action or event happen requires a method
to make such composition effective.

Lesson 6 – Gerunds; Infinitives

Identifying Gerunds

- Gerund is a verbal – a verb form that is used as another part of speech – ending in ‘ing’ that
functions as a noun.
- Gerund phrase consists of a gerund and its modifiers and complements. Like a gerund, a gerund
phrase also functions as a noun. Thus, it can be used as a subject, direct object, appositive,
predicate nominative, object of the preposition, or indirect object.
- An infinitive is a verb preceded by “to”
- An infinitive phrase consist of an infinitive, modifiers, and complements
- Both infinitive and infinitive phrases may be used in sentences as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs.

- Commission is paid to an employee for selling merchandise.


- Sales Tax is the amount that is added to the price of an item purchased
- Interest is the amount charged for the borrowed money in a period of time
- Simple Interest is a type of interest based only on the principal
- Interest Rate is the percent charged for the money borrowed
- Percent Decrease is the percent of decrease in value relative to the original value
- Percent Increase is the percent of increase in value relative to the original value
- Principal is the amount of money borrowed
- Inflation Rate is the increase of prices

- Music production and creation is easy nowadays because of technology. You can use various
music applications to create or produce music , speed tempo, adjust pitch, compress sound effects,
remove noises and more.
- Music Creation Tools allow you to produce music online. Some of them are:
1. Sibelius – music notation software for writing and creating music
2. Audacity – used for sound editing
3. WavePad – is a program for creating music and editing audio files. Can also be used in iOS or
Android phones
4. Ocenaudio – audio editing program used for sound editing
- FL Studio is a music production software used to edit, mix, record, and compose professional quality
music

Lesson 5 – Using Photo, Video, Music

- Infographics are visual representations of information that use the element of design to quickly
communicate an idea
- Ways that infographics can be used:

Lesson 2: Classifying Invertebrates


Invertebrates- are animals without backbones or vertebral column.
The specific groups of invertebrates are sponges, cnidarians, flatworms, roundworms, segmented worms,
mollusks, echinoderms and arthropods.

1. Arthropods (jointed legged animals)


- Segmented bodies allowing for efficient and complex movements.
- Have jointed legged appendages for feeding, sensing, walking, and mating.
Classification of arthropods- insects, arachnids, crustaceans, centipedes, millipedes
2. Mollusks- Soft bodied animals Ex. Oysters, scallops, mussels, snail
3. Echinoderms – Spiny skinned animals ex. Sea star, sea urchin, sea cucumber, sea lily, sand dollar

Lesson 3: Plant Propagation


Plant Propagation- the process of multiplying or increasing the number of plants and perpetuating the
characteristics of the same plant.
Reasons why plants must propagate
1. To increase the number of plants rapidly.
2. to retain the desirable characteristics of a mother plant
3. To hasten the bearing age of a fruit tree
4. to prevent the extinction of the plant variety
5. to develop superior plants that is best suited to the soil and climate of locality

2 kinds of propagation
1. Sexual propagation- production of plants is by seeds or spores.
2. Asexual propagation- is the method of propagating plants without the use of seeds.

1. air layering or marcotting-a branch or twig is induced to produce roots while this is attached to the parent
plant.
2. budding- is the process of inserting the lateral bud (scion) of a selected branch into the bark of the same
family.
Shield or T-budding- is the most common method of propagation used in fruit tree nurseries.
3. grafting- is the process of transferring the part of the plant called the bud taken from a selected tree
to another plant so that they may grow together as one independent plant.

Lesson 4: Marketing and Selling Fruits

Marketing and selling- are among the most important factors in determining the success of any fruit farming
enterprise.
Marketing-is the process of selling harvested fruits.
2 types of fruits to be harvested:
1. climacteric fruits- those harvested in the maturity stage and allowed to ripen fruit.
Ex: banana, amango, durian, papaya, chico, jackfruit.
2. non-climacteric fruits- are those fruits that are harvested at the ripe stage because they do not ripen
before selling.
Ex: rambutan, pomelo, santol, lanzones, orange.

Ways of marketing fruits


1. wholesale marketing- fruits are sold in a large scale.
2. retail or direct marketing- the fruits are either brought to the local market or sold in the neighborhood or in
the roadside.

Lesson 5: Melodic Symbols


C Major Scale or key – is the standard key used in music from which all major keys derive their pitch.
Key signature- is a group of flats or sharps placed at the beginning of the staff which is written after the G clef
sign.
Scale- is a succession of eight musical notes arranged in ascending and descending order.
Diatonic- composed of two whole tones and half step.

Lesson 6: Minor Scales
Minor scales- is a scale or series of notes that has this interval pattern: WS-HS-WS-WS-HS-WS-WS
WS means whole step, HS means half step
For the Major Scale- there are two whole steps, a half steps, a half step, three whole steps and a half
step.
The half steps are between third and fourth )mi and fa) and the seventh and eighth (ti and do).
