Rajasthan Seeks Integration of Chiranjeevi Scheme with Ayushman

ØThe BJP-led Rajasthan government seeks approval from union

health ministry to integrate its Chiranjeevi health insurance
scheme with Ayushman Bharat.
ØAfter the approval, the scheme will be named ‘Ayushman
Bharat Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme’
ØThe integrated scheme will maintain Chiranjeevi’s existing
benefits, providing a substantial ₹25 lakh insurance cover
applicable to both private and government hospitals.

Scheme’ was launched by ex-Congress CM of Rajasthan
Ashok Gehlot on May 1, 2021

Ø Ayushman Bharat, a flagship scheme of Government of India, was launched

as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017, to achieve the vision

Ø PM-JAY is the world’s largest health insurance
scheme fully financed by the government.

Ø It offers a sum insured of Rs.5 lakh per family for

secondary care and tertiary care.

Ø The funding for the scheme is shared – 60:40 for all

states and UTs with their own legislature, 90:10 in
Northeast states and Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal
and Uttarakhand and 100% Central funding for UTs

• The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) along

with National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM)
has launched 'SMART 2.0’ (Scope for Mainstreaming Ayurveda
Research among Teaching professionals) program

• to promote robust clinical studies in priority areas of Ayurveda with

Ayurveda academic institutions/hospitals across the country
• The objective of ‘SMART 2.0’ is to generate a tangible
evidence to demonstrate efficacy and safety of Ayurveda
interventions using interdisciplinary research methods and
translating it into public health care.

• Under the ‘SMART 1.0’, around 10 diseases were covered

with the active participation of teaching professionals from
38 colleges.

India registered about 12 lakh new cancer cases and

9.3 lakh deaths in 2019, becoming the second
highest contributor to the disease burden in Asia for
that year, after China.

in terms of number of new cases and deaths.
