DIABETES

Every human has its own way when it comes to lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle means
taking good care of your body and treating your body as a very important factor in your
life. It is necessary as it will prevent us from getting any risk of chronic diseases or long-
term illness. Number one example of a chronic disease is Diabetes. About 537 million
people are living with diabetes as of 2021. The numbers are quite concerning compared
to the 109 million people with diabetes in 1980. This means that the number is
increasing throughout the years and the International Diabetes Federation expects the
global prevalence of diabetes to reach 643 million by 2030. Person who's likely
physically inactive will have a greater risk of Diabetes, especially if their eating habit is
unhealthy. Unhealthy eating habits such as overeating can cause obesity, especially if
they are physically inactive. Extra weight sometimes causes insulin resistance and is
common in people with type 2 diabetes. The pancreas can’t make enough insulin, and
blood glucose levels rise. With that, the pancreas can't keep up the insulin demand of
the body. Another situation that a person predisposes in acquiring diabetes is through
genes. However, an unhealthy lifestyle is still the biggest factor in acquiring it. When a
pregnant woman is overweight or gaining too much weight, they will have an insulin
resistance. Then, this will result in the baby having a chance of acquiring the said
chronic disease. Having a family history of diabetes makes it more likely that a woman
will develop gestational diabetes, which suggests that genes play a role. Moreover,
people who have diseases in pancreas such as pancreatitis or pancreas cancer may
cause diabetes as it will lead to producing less insulin. Most specifically, a person who
has removed pancreas will have a high chance of getting diabetes due to the loss of
beta cells. Technically, there are many types of diabetes. However, the three main
types are Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. The general symptoms of diabetes
include increased hunger and thirst, weight loss, frequent urination, blurry vision,
extreme fatigue, and sores that don’t heal. Diabetes symptoms can be so mild that
they’re hard to spot at first. Both genes and environmental factors play a role in
triggering diabetes. Healthy lifestyle is very vital for us humans as it will prevent us from
having a risk of any chronic diseases. Diabetes is a medical condition that can cause
serious complications, but it can be managed with medicine and changes in lifestyle.
People should start taking good care of their body, such as starting to eat healthy foods
and daily exercises, especially for pregnant women.
