i. If A(-4, 3) and B(8, -6) are two points, then in what ratio is the line segment AB divided

ii. A large firm employs 4250 employees. One person is chosen at random. What is the
probability that the person’s birthday is on Monday in the year 2016? [2]
iii. In the figure, O is the centre of the circum circle of ∆XYZ. Tangents [3]
at X and Y intersect at T. Given XTY=80° and XOZ = 140°,
Calculate the value of ZXY.
iv. A boy standing on the bank of a river observes that the angle subtended by a tree on the
opposite bank is 60°. When he moves 20 m back from the bank, he finds the angle to be
30°. Find the height of the tree and the breadth of the river. [3]

a. In the figure, AB is a common tangent to two circles intersecting at C and D. [2]
Write down the measure of ( ACB + ADB). Justify your answer.

b. The total surface area of a cylinder of radius 5 cm is 660 cm2. Find the height of the [2]

With the help of a graph paper, taking 2 cm = 10 units along one axis and 2 cm = 10 units
along the other axis, plot an ogive for the above distribution and use it to find the median.

a. Write down the equation of the line whose gradient is and which passes through P,
where P divides the line segment joining A (-2, 6) and B (3, -4) in the ratio 2 : 3. [2]
b. Find the mean of the following distribution: [2]

c. Conical vessel whose internal radius is 5 cm and height 24 cm is full of water. The water
is emptied into a cylindrical vessel with internal radius 10 cm. Find the height to which
the water rises. [3]
d. Use graph paper to solve this question. [3]
i. Plot the points P (0, 3), Q, (3, -2) and O (0, 0)
ii. Plot R, the image of Q, when reflected in the y-axis and write its coordinates.
iii. What is the geometrical name of the figure PQOR?
Question 5.
a. In the given figure, ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral whose side CD
has been produced to E. If BA = BC and BAC = 40°, find ADE. [2]

b. If x = a sin θ + b cos θ, and y = a cos θ – b sin θ, then prove that x2 + y2 = a2 + b2. [2]
c. Point A(7, -3) and B(1, 9) are given. Find: [3]
i. the slope of AB
ii. the equation of the perpendicular bisector of the line segment AB.
iii. the value of p, if (-2, p) lies on it.
d. Use a graph paper for this question. Estimate the mode of the given distribution by
plotting a histogram. [3]

a. Two dice are thrown simultaneously. Find the probability of obtaining:
i. the sum of the two numbers that turn up is 8.
ii. the same number on both the dice. [2]
b. Find the co-ordinates of the points of trisection of the line segment joining the points
(3, -3) and (6, -9). [2]
c. The angles of elevation of the top of the tower from two points on the ground at distances
a m and b m from the base of the tower and in the same straight line with it are
complementary. Prove that the height of the tower is √ab m. [3]
d. The arithmetic mean of the following distribution is 50. Find the value of p. [3]
