HOW 2

WRITE A BRIEF
ANALYSIS

1: WHY ANALYSE A PROJECT BRIEF?

Analysing the given brief should be the very first task you do. This establishes what you need to
do, when you need to do it for and what format does your work need to be handed in. You
should also establish where in the project the grading criteria will be achieved and what you
need to do in order to achieve them.

2: HOW TO ANALYSE A BRIEF?

Read the brief several times, make sure you understand everything that is being asked of you.
Check the marking criteria at the back of the brief. Note down which criteria match to which
sections of the project (Research, development, Final production). Produce a written brief
evaluation showing exactly what you need.

3: HOW TO WRITE A BRIEF ANALYSIS?

Use the following questions as a guide to writing your brief analysis. Remember you may not be
able to answer all the items on the list in every project.

ANALYSIS CHECKLIST
• What have you been asked to create?
• Who are you designing it for? (Target Audience)
• What is it’s purpose? What are you trying to achieve?
• Are there any themes or similar projects the client wants you to
work to?
• What are the specified materials or structure?
• Is there anything I don’t know how to do?
• Where can I start my research?
• Any initial Ideas?
• What will I produce as a final outcome? How will I present it?
• What resources will I need for this project?
